The generic smbx level thing collab (not final name)

If it doesn't fit elsewhere, it should go here

okay so if you've been paying any attention to my posts recently I was talking about making a forum smbx episode made by the forum no shit.

The idea is that everyone can make what ever kind of level they want, (this means theme, design, and difficulty.)
and rate them and place them in the HUB depending on how good they are (worst to best of the best.) an idea I'm stealing from tower of biased 2

but keep this in mind if you want to make a level!

Code: Select all

1. If there's someone talking to the player please for the love of god don't make them address the player as Mario.

I've seen this happen in way to many maps, if you're going to have someone talk to the player try to do so without mentioning any names. e.g. hello there instead of hello Mario.

2. don't make it a single player only level.

There's multiplayer in smbx, you can't turn it off and people will play with a friend or family member.

3. Don't make cheap deaths.

this is level design 101 here, it's not fair to put a line of invisible blocks above a pool of lava.

4. If it's not finished, don't post it.

this should be really easy to understand, if the level isn't complete (suddenly the floor just stops) I'm not putting it in.

5. it mus use a star in it somewhere

unfortunately it's the only way to progress the way I've been thinking for the HUB layout.

I'll be updating these when I find more common flaws in submissions/maps.

for this project I'm going to need some people to help me manage it,
I'll be needing people to help me work on the HUB,
Someone to help me rate submissions (This is why I was hoping idiot would be on board because of his great level rating skills.)
And someone to help me handle the project in general.

if you have any suggestions please let me know,
if you need graphics I'd strongly recommend this
http://nsmbxforums.prophpbb.com/topic430.html (or this fancy thing the kids call google.)

that's all I really need to say so everyone have fun.
Oh god I feel this is going to go horribly wrong.

You can block players, so that only one character is avaliable
and is the newest version 1.3?

incorrect you can block up to 3 characters leaving two player slots open. (plus I prefer multi player)
you don't have to test multi player I'll take care of that aspect in other peoples level if they really want to,
as for the version.
should be, there hasn't been updates for it in years.

It was abandoned, then. I can't find 1.4 anywhere
If anyone can find the SMBX remastered or New SMBX download then that would be great, but I'm using 1.3
I'm also currently working on a "Slide Pack" where you slide through the levels.

There is no such thing as SMBX: R anymore. And there is no "New" SMBX download. About every one of them includes a simple virus.
I got mine from Softpedia with a virus that I cleaned off with Microsoft Security Essentials immediately while it was installing.

nsmbx was cancelled, 1.3 is the only smbx out there.
We're sticking with 1.3 end of story.

I'd call world map, but I don't think there is one.

Wait, so should it have a real ending, and a star? (I love secret endings so much!)
We should have some world structure.
Give me a theme.
I'll probably start working on a level tomorrow. (if we don't get enough participation, I am not to prideful to result to begging people to help because I want this project to work)

the idea of the project is to build what ever kind of level you want,
there will be doors in the HUB that will lead to your level and depending how could your level is the farther away the level is in the game,
as for a secret ending, I'm thinking of hiding the winner somewhere in the lobby.
(e.g. room 1 turret 4.5, room 2 bob 7.8)

I'm making a HUB in the level editor (it's a HUB level not a map I'm making) that I'll be showing big contributes (e.g. if jorichi or idiot9.0 decided to help me out.) to help make better but you can create one anyway if you really want and I'll take a look at it and may consider using it (no promises though).

I don't quite understand what you mean.
you can have two different types of stars in a level I believe.

Wait, how about there is a hub, but there are other levels besides the hub for with extra / more stars.
