The topic for all things horror games. You must not speak about anything else. Horror games are games that make you feel creeped out like SCP: Containment breach or Amnesia or certain games such as the dead space series. I got this idea from playing fibrillation...

I will never understand why people find the Slender games (and all related games) scary. 'Jumpscares' aren't true horror to me anyways.
I won't go rant on this again though...
Dead Space just seems like a joke to me. I owned it and really felt ripped off, so I returned it (something I normally NEVER do). Although it might be enjoyable for some if you simply don't see it as a serious 'horror' game. Sadly that's their main focus in the marketing...
Amnesia is my favorite in the genre, but still quite far from being perfect.
I do like how they tend to play with your mind, and the story is just delightful. Paint the man, cut the lines. PAINT THE MAN, CUT THE LINES!
SCP-087 (and 087 B) Also do a great job of driving you insane, but on a different level.
Paranormal is quite fun too, it has a lot to show each run. It's a huge 'What the heck is going on here?!' fest. I like that. But take away the jumpscares, spooky sounds and lighting; then you'd get Katamari Damacy...
Resident Evil 4 is one of my favorite games ever, but I'd never put that under the Horror genre. I'd put it under the Survival/Action genres.
That reminds me, does anyone think that a lot more games are being released that include zombies (probably mainly indie games)? I'm starting to get sick of them... (-.-')

Zomb- ZOMBIES! I'LL TAKE 12! People like zombies.
Most horror games just use jumpscares and it's awful. Gave up on them ages ago.

ZombiU was a very nice game, which had some quick scares mixed with a creepy atmosphere.

Slender games are the stupidest of all horror games. Same plot, not really scary the first time, plain stupid the next 20 times. You go through the woods, and he gets you. The overhype adds to the non-scariness as well, as you'll hear roughly 5 hours of people talking about [insert overhyped YouTuber here]'s Slender gameplays. It's ridiculous.Jorichi wrote:I will never understand why people find the Slender games (and all related games) scary.

It's hard to find a decent horror game these days. Most aren't even scary, but filled with jumpscares, which seem like they're scary, but are just surprising.

I honestly don't think zombie games should be considered horror games because you get to fight back against them.

When I played Justine mode on Amnesia I walked out of the room with all the jail cells and then I heard a HAAAAAUUUUR I kept going until I saw the creepy monster ragdoll thing. Then I hid in the corner where it couldn't see me then it turned and attacked me and I was like WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO BE?! and ran down the tunnels and picked up the ladder and he came, gave me a heart attack and killed me.(in the game of course) That would be the scariest moment of my life.

Hi Guys,
We've working on a new game inspired by Call of Cthulu: Dark Corners of the Earth (DCOTE).
I've always been inspired by the Cthulu mythos and have been itching to work on a game like DCOTE.
We are only a small indie team so making something of the grand scale of DCOTE isn't possible, but hopefully we can capture some of the similar elements.
The game is called Phantasmal : The house of the shunned ones. It's an FPS, and the objective is simple - to escape the mansion. The mansion itself is completely procedurally generated so no two games will ever be alike. Each room and hallway is created randomly from it's components, i.e. walls, ceilings, floors, props etc.
Although the weapons are mostly conventional firearms currently, we plan to place a greater emphasis on makeshift weapons for the final release. You can currently pull pipes and wooden boards off the environment to fight.
Much like DCOTE - some enemies will cause you to lose your sanity. Over time you will begin to hallucinate, hear sounds and eventually die.
Anyway, we would love to make this game better so it would be great to have your feedback!

I usually play my horror games online when I'm bored at school...you can find some great titles here http://www.gameshed.com/Scary-Games/, but I've recently tried 'I have no Mouth, and I Must Scream' a few days ago and I was really really impressed...the game has some unique stories and the atmosphere is creepy as hell. The game is available on Steam for only 1.5 euro. Yeah, the graphics are crappy (the game was released in 1996 ?!?) but the story and atmosphere are top notch! Why aren't more games made like this one? Why all we see nowadays is clicker games and fps?

is a intensifily depressing unabailatility to finish the story good without someone dying combined with jumpscares and backwards music horror?
