I think I need to come up with a name for my third OC (if you count shadowfire who I have not played as in anything for more than 5 minutes.)
Can anyone help?
Here. This is all teh infoz!
Cutiemark: Crossed wrench and soldering iron.
Bio: I'm really good at fixing and building things. I'm blind, however I have built goggles that let me see for a limited amount of time, since they need time to recharge.
Race: Unicorn
Gender: Male

I'm pretty sure blind people can probably build googles since they have refined metal senses.

But if "magic" and he's used to being blind, why would he need goggles?
These are all things you gotta think about when making a character like this. Cool things are cool but they gotta make sense or it's better to leave it off.

Dammit. Why did somebody else do the blind thing? I thought I had something going with my OC :c
Then bucking Snowdrop...

I need to find some disability that no one has...

Well, since my last OC, I figured it wouldn't even fit in with anyone else ever. So I made this, 'Bubblegum Turbine'.
The small 'dialish' things on the front portion of her wings are small propellers, allowing her to maneuver obstacles mush easier than regular Pegasai.
The small purplish things on the tips of the wings help stabilize her during flight.
I did this half-assedly in around half an hour, but criticism would be nice.

This is just my opinion though, so don't take it personally:
When I look at OC's most of them are "overpowered", have a horrible disability, trauma or mental issue.
I also see a lot of pony OC's that are black or genuinely dark in color (75% chance that it's a pegasus too, but that aside).
Won't you think that a normal pony with colors that would fit in with the ponies in the show work out better? Won't it be better to make the OC stand out with his/her personality instead of their visual appearance or disability?
Ofcourse it depends on what you're planning to do with it. I just have to make that clear.
If you're writing a story with him/her you should focus more on the story, not the character. If it's just for a profile picture or a roleplaying forum topic, anything will work actually...
I guess my point is that people try to hard to stand out with their OC's. That's why I sticked with Sundae. She's adorable (in my opinion), normal and doesn't have any major traits that would make her stand out above the rest (except for the fact that she's so cute that I had to install a defibrillator in my own room).
Costinteo actually asked me to visually design his OC. His description sparked my interest as the mare he explained to me was a normal pony, nothing out of the ordinary, just a cute mare with a strong affection for colorful things. The outcome was really adorable. (I'll let it up to Costinteo to post it or not, it's his OC)
When I design an OC, I always have a rule in my head: "If this particular pony was in the show, would it fit one way or another?"
Perhaps I'm overthinking things, but I'm certainly not refraining anyone from creating a deaf, dumb and/or blind pony OC.
I'm just giving food for thought.

I really like Sundae, but just for the personality you give her (filling the screen with Sundae Scoops tanks in the Scrappers beta comes to mind). Most pony OCs try to be super hardcore cool kids and I really like to imagine Sundae is walking up to them and offering them icecream with a derpy smile on her face.

Jorichi hit the nail on the head.
Heck, my first pony OC is literally named "Generic Pony #7"
I do like making special OC's in once in a while, but it's never usually too over the top and I balance it out with normal people, or the special thing was made specifically for a plot point.

My first OC was the template with a cutie mark. She didn't even have hair. Or a tail.
After that I decided to just stick with TurretBot.

A blind, white earth pony with a maroon mane. Because maroon <3
Likes to sit in the background but is generally nice to people who confront her.
On a quest to find her brother. How? Ask mister "Got used to being blind". People get used to being blind, 'specially when born widdit.

Here's mine. Her name is Color Spark. Jorichi made the drawing as stated above and helped with his opinions.
Description: Color Spark has a strange and very powerful attraction to colourful things. She also loves soft things. That's why she loves socks and painting. She's really happy all the time and she's a very sociable pony but has a deep fear of being rejected by other ponies. She has a wardrobe full of different coloured socks. She sleeps with a pink blanket every night just because it's so soft. She never met her parents, her father disappeared a long time ago and her mother passed away at her birth. She was taken by her grandparents, who are living on the other side of town now. Her room is full of fun and happy posters. She's full of life and makes friends easily. She comes up with good jokes from time to time.
She has socks, just if you don't get it.

What? No. Lol, we just took Twilight's Cutie Mark's Sparkles and recoloured them.
Very weird coincidence though.

Oh yeah, regarding that...
Hasbro is being a dick about it.
They've sent Shapeways a DMCA Takedown Letter, they want Shapeways to take down all things MLP-related.
So yeah, there went one of the major reasons for me to 3D model ponies.

Well, you could create a humanized version of Sundae Scoops and pretend like it was a normal human being. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard...

Well, I'm pretty sure this doesnt apply to OC ponies...the same happens with the expensive 3rd parties unlicensed Transformers toys. They make their versions of the original characters(so that the toys shape is different enough than any existent licensed toy for that charachters, yet recognizable) and then sell it with a different name than the original. This way there's no copyright infringement, even tho these toy are clearly inspired by copyrighted characters. In the same way, OC ponies shouldnt be a problem.Jorichi wrote:Oh yeah, regarding that...

Pretty sure that just applies for their official designs. OCs shouldn't be taken down just because of the likeness of style.Jorichi wrote:Oh yeah, regarding that...

I simply am not sure how Shapeways would take it. I don't expect them to know every single pony with copyright on them. So they might just refuse anything My Little Pony related. Then again, the letter might just as well be talking about these figurines specifically. But yeah, I guess OC's should be in the clear.Sašo wrote:Pretty sure that just applies for their official designs. OCs shouldn't be taken down just because of the likeness of style.
I had a plan in mind for modeling practice, many months ago. I wanted to create sets of paint-able pony figurines where mane and tail would be interchangeable, so you could put your own OC together. The idea could range from having preset bodies, manes and tails to having every single limb adjustable like an action figure (I liked the first the best). But it rose many questions and I never actually got back to fleshing out the idea.

Just tell them it's related to "Filly princess", which is a ripoff franchaise that Hasbro doesn't own.
Flawless plan.
