On a slightly related note, I played portal for the first time, and it is an amazing game that runs on my netbook pretty well. I was surprised.

What netbook do you have? Both model and full specs(you should have an Atom cpu if i remember well, but which one?), cuz im on a netbook too and I'd love to play Portal on it(even tho i've already over-played it on my desktop pc), but i always thought it wasnt powerfull enough(either for the cpu and/or the graphic card).samkostka wrote:On a slightly related note, I played portal for the first time, and it is an amazing game that runs on my netbook pretty well. Also, anyone know any nice indie horror 2d platform like Home, but free?

I sometimes watch screw attacks video game vault on game trailers (I hate going to game trailers so I don't go there often.)
I scrolled down and these were the first four comments I saw.

I have a Gateway lt4004u with an Atom N2600(dual core hyperthreaded 1.6GHz) and Intel GMA 3600, stock drivers. All settings on low, portal depth at 1, and it averages about 20-30 FPS, with some lag spikes. playable though.TheSeek wrote:What netbook do you have? And if it helps, my Windows Experience Index is 3.2 with the lowest being gaming graphics.

Thinking about when you said yours is a "shit/low-end netbook", i thought it was way worse than this...samkostka wrote: I have a Gateway lt4004u with an Atom N2600(dual core hyperthreaded 1.6GHz) and Intel GMA 3600, stock drivers. Mine is worse, Asus EeePc 1005HA Intel Atom N280(Single core 1.66GHz), Mobile Intel 945 Express Chipset Family, 1Gb RAM...dunno about my Windows Experience cuz i'm on XP.
Also, your CPU has twice L2 cache memory than mine.
I've read about someone playing Portal on my netbook, but no one ever gave proof or techincal info about it.
Out of curiosity, if it doesnt bother you, i'd like to know what Can You Run It says about your cpu(if it says it's ok or not) regarding playing Portal.

Any info on the graphic card? Anyway, a gold rule when you have doubts about buying a pc is that you can always build the same identical pc buying the separated parts spending less money. Sometimes you can even build a better pc spending less money.FaycalMenouar wrote:i have a RV509 , Samsung , Intel Corei3 4GB of RAM DDR3 and a crappy intel HD graphics , and i'm still bitching about how much my computer sucks . i recently found an HP COMPAQ intel core i7 , 8 GB RAN , 2TB of hard drive !! and two GPU's , but it costs about 2000 dollars ( 1800 Euro ) so what do you guys say ? should i buy it ?
The main reason is cuz buing one you also pay for having it already built and ready to work with a preinstalled OS, but also cuz most of the time the mother board on which each component is built on isn't always the best you can get for that price.
Not being able to build a pc isn't an excuse cuz even a complete noob could build one following one of the hundreds guides on the internet.

I have a 3rd gen Core i5 (better for gaming), GeForce GTX 680, 2TB HDD, 16GB RAM and newest chipset motherboard for just £1000 (€1240 or $1600) so no it's a terrible deal.FaycalMenouar wrote:i recently found an HP COMPAQ intel core i7 , 8 GB RAN , 2TB of hard drive !! and two GPU's , but it costs about 2000 dollars ( 1800 Euro ) so what do you guys say ? should i buy it ?

About that graph being an overstimate, it doesnt show where your system specs actually are, but just a rough guess, using 1 of just 6 pre placed positions.
To me it says i have everything i need to play it, except for the CPU(probably cuz it's a single core)...i wonder if forcing Portal to use DX7 and unlocking the ultra-low settings might make it run, being playable.

If I am Turret Opera, 0 + 0 = 1.
If I'm Not Turret Opera, 0 + 0 = 0.
If I'm lying, 0 + 1 = ∞
If I'm truthful, You will NEVER KNOW.

Why am I have a feeling that when a thread is consider as dead, "old user" will never ever post in it again, while "newb" can have the right to bumb it (because "Bumping threads is fine as long as you add something to the discussion or bring up to date information regarding it" and they're "newb"), and when they do, "old user" will suddenly post in it like crazy like they have tons of things to discus about but, well, because the thread is dead so.. You know what I mean
Now back to the topic, what if Turret Opera actually knew that ^, so he created an alt just to revive threads so we can finally post in it?
That's mean he's helping us the whole time...
"But why did he hide it?"
Because he's the hero that SYS Forum deserves, but not the one it needs right now... and so we'll hunt him... because he can take it... because he's not a hero... he's a silent guardian, a watchful protector... a Turret Opera...

Turret, what you posted is loljk, not logic.
Loljk is the attempted use of flawed logic wherein there are an unusually large number of fallacies (e.g. post hoc, ergo propter hoc), untruthful statements (especially those that almost pass as truth), or things that are just plain WRONG. It is used extensively when making jokes or trolling, and is often used by people who have no idea what they're doing, occasionally stretching to even the smartest of us when used without thinking first. It is related to, and in most cases synonymous with, troll logic.
The uses of loljk are many and varied. It's main use is to prove untruthful statements, useful for creating nonsense, deriving unrelated objects, recreating history, proving the unprovable, or making one look smart when one has no idea what one is doing. Other uses include humor, getting out of sticky situations, horrifying teachers, or earning blank stares from one's friends. It is known to be extremely useful on tests.
Some examples of loljk include:
All dogs are animals.
All cats are animals.
Therefore all cats are dogs.
(a+b)² = a² + b²
I went to the store intending to get an iPhone, but when I got home, I looked and it was a Samsung! I want my money back!
The answer to any problem is x, where x is the answer to the problem in question.
The end of the world will be on *this date*! Run for your lives!
for(int i = 1; i != 20; i *= 2)
answer += i;
Since "if and only if" can be shortened to "iff," does that mean "iff and only iff" can be shortened to "iffff"? Then if we have "iffff and only iffff," that could be shortened to "iffffffff" or "if^8," right? Then what about if^256?
