I'm starting to make music...

I'm starting to make music, and to do so I need a bandcamp account since I need a place to share it.
However, it asks for a band/artist name...
This is the problem. I have no idea what to call myself in the music world. I don't think any of my usernames (Bubba0nate, SuperSuit12, something else I'm forgetting...) would be a very good name.
I'm thinking of using one of my OC's names, Refracted Darkness, as my artist name. Sounds kinda cool, less usernamey more musiciany. But I have no idea.
yes refracted darkness is a pony name.
Suggestions?
Note: This post will (most likely) not be updated and instead I will post new things I need advice about in new posts and place a note on each post when the problem is solved.

"Refracted Darkness" sounds really cool!
Please tell me how it turns out. Since I'm a "composer / music maker / bandcamp user / general person who is obsessed with music and knows a lot about it," if you need any advice or help or anything, I'm here to ask :)
Also when you do start sharing it totally put up the link here
Oh, one recommendation. Try the chat room first unless a question is general and discussable enough for its own topic. I'm not exactly sure what you have in mind with this, so whether or not this deserves its own thread is borderline in my opinion

Bubba, in a joke that his username starts with "B" and the ironic fact that there's already a music maker in the forums (that's you!) with the B-Man name, so hilarity may or may not have ensued.B-Man99 wrote:I can't even tell which one of us you were talking to
Explaining this ruined the purpose.

We refer to it as the chat room because that's what it's called.

I figured this would generally be a thread for all things me-learning-to-make-music related. Such as what an OSC is.
Anyways, I've been working on some short... whatever these are called.

Well they are interesting, and promising, but im certainly not going to shell out 7 dollars for them. But the first one in particular is rather good.

What program(s) do you use? The drum samples sound very similar to things I've used in FL.
Also while they are way too short to critique, everyone has to start somewhere, so congratulations!
I do hope you don't seriously expect anyone to pay $7 for 28 seconds though...

Yep, FL studio. And the 7 dollars is the default and I didn't realize I could set it to 0, I thought free downloads were something you paid for always and not just if you exceed 200 a month. Fixed.
Starting on the soundtrack for my server... http://refracteddarkness.bandcamp.com/a ... soundtrack which is also free since you'll be able to download it with the resource pack :)

Honestly the stuff he has up there is a bit too simplistic for me to really define and critique. It does sound a bit off at certain moments, but it's clear he's just learning and frankly I have no idea how much he knows and doesn't know about what he is doing.
@BubbaNate: Do you play any instruments? Do you take music classes; or at least know about chord progressions and the like? Lastly, why are you doing this, and how do you see what you're doing? It takes a certain about of dedication and independence to improve. I don't mean to be rude in calling you a beginner, as every learning process has a beginning, but since it's been a very long time since I was at a stage similar to this and I pick things up on my own, I'm not exactly sure how to help just by what you've said so far.
Based on this community and your content, I feel like this topic would be both more fitting AND more helpful using PMs (with whomever you would like, it seems Shank and I are both interested)

Wait, which song are we talking about, the Taking Flight soundtrack or the short song-ish things?
And yes, I play guitar and piano and have taken classes for both.

Just because you've taken classes for Piano and Guitar doesn't mean you can compose. Don't use notes that are not on the same scale in the same melody, it sounds off if you can't do it right. This is discussing my music and is a help and review thread for it... Why are you posting this?jwright159 wrote:I've had these for a while. (lol seven elements :D)
Never said that meant I could compose.Shank wrote:Just because you've taken classes for Piano and Guitar doesn't mean you can compose. He's probably sharing his music just like you were. My suggestion would be to change this thread to a sort-of general original music threadbubba_nate wrote:This is discussing my music and is a help and review thread for it... That would work really well, seeing how there are plenty of us that could contribute. Plus it's something that would actually warrant having an entire thread for. We're all trying to help out each other; this is a community; I honestly see that being a clearly good choice.
I mean it's your thread, but I'm not about to spend time giving advice in a thread dedicated to one person when it's a thread I already said was more useful in a different setup.
It's neat to see you guys making music. Since we've already had so many awesome artists and programmers on these forums I've been sort of a lone rider with what I do. So, could you please consider it? Thanks...

Or this. viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4390
Anyway, I would love to upgrade some of your songs if you want. And I will credit you.
Oh, and give me the FL files please.
