Fuck Metal Mario.
This is all my opinion but he does not deserve to be a playable character. All he is is Mario with a Metal cap. That's it. There's no point to him being playable.
The Metal Cap could have been an excellent item instead, allowing you to not take hits from Shells and the like, but nope. So much wasted potential there just to fill a character slot. It's not like they have other characters that can fill the roll. I mean they fit EVERY SINGLE KOOPA KID in there for fucks sake. They're in no shortage of characters.

The rest of the trailer looks great though. Loving the new powerups showcased as well as that remade N64 Rainbow Road. I may need to get a Wii U for this.

What about Lakitu and Shy Guy?
I think they only put in Metal Mario because he was in the DS one (Don't quote me on that.) and it's a free steal for a character. Which is lazy, yeah, but it's still nice to see a new character. That's my opinion.

That's exactly why I love him.
He's smaller than the giant Bowser, (=less likley to be hit) and he's also a heavyweight that knocks around others easily. (I just cannot go anymore, being knocked around like some pebble. I've fallen off of tracks far too many times to ever go back- and you also have a straight, nearly uninterrupted path when driving anywhere. No need to adjust for the heavy characters.)
I mean, he isn't quite unique in a character sense yet, though. If Nintendo managed a story to support that, well, Metal Mario would have a much greater reason to exist.

I don't think he should be labeled as a separate character yet, though.
Something more like you go to choose Mario, and Metal Mario is a option when choosing him.
And then they could expand on that even further by having Ice Luigi, Tanooki Toad, differing colored Yoshis, etc.
This would greatly improve the variety of online character and kart combos, making 2 never quite the same.
And if the individual character alterations had different stats from the originals, (like Metal Mario)
that would be really cool.

(And then they could also list all of the Koopalings under 1 slot; this should save a lot of space.)

Points being:
I like Metal Mario for his uniqueness in a gameplay sense, but not as a character himself.
I would also like for things like this to be expanded upon. Not to take up character slots, but as divisions of characters.
