when typing in a text field, such as when making a custom level, the space key causes the field to become unfocused, rather than actually inserting a space.

I actually seem to be getting this same issue, except I'm running Windows XP Home SP3. (Also Mari0 version 1.3.)
It fooled me at first, too--I thought it was due to my mapping the jump key to the space bar, because I thought pressing the jump key was unfocusing the text field--but no, remapping the jump key did nothing to fix the problem. :p

Either wait for 1.4 or edit the settings.txt yourself.
