It's a platform that goes downwards when you step on it, just with a rope tile in the center. I should also bring up that with the number of sub levels, it may be a good idea to modify the level files with a text editor so you get sub levels 6, 7, 8, etc. Start by making them 1-2, 1-2_1, and so on, then when you're done with the level structure, modify the level file names and pipe entrances to connect to one another.

Do you have the tiles ripped? There are some tiles not available in the default AMB tileset. (like the green castle)

The platform that goes down when you step on it is the one with three arrows pointing downwards. You can adjust the length with the right mouse button.

Here's the tileset.

Bouncing Mario would be possible without modding. All it does is make the lifts/platforms rubbery and bounce Mario repeatedly; not a big feature IMO.

I think sooner or latter I (or someone else) should bring up this project on RomHacking.net and/or board2, since they are forums based all around hacking. Maybe someone there would be interested in participating and recreating hacks. Heck it'd give us something to do before Special Edition finally arrives and we all can resume work on our personal map packs.

Off-topic, but has anyone around here found any Japanese-language Mari0 fanbase? I wonder if anyone in the East has made a custom map pack for Mari0.

Tileset Update: Old Pond, Diving Frog and Water Sound. A hack that's made up almost entirely of water levels.

Is 1-1 supposed to take you to -1 after bowser battle?

Naturally, any instance where you're sent to -1 after Bowser is considered a "bad ending", because the original hack I based this on has three endings. This video is of the original hack, which shows all three two of the three endings.

(Oh, and I swapped out the Paragoombas with Lakitu since the Spinies it throws technically count as projectiles.

Found a video of an interesting hack that might be worth porting:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8D_RpfazLM

It was a suggested video on a URL you posted, SuperJustinBros, so I'm guessing you might have seen it

I have it's tile set available; it's a few posts back. At the moment I'm re-creating "Old Pond, Diving Frog and Water Sound", which I already have the first half of the hack done (except I don't have invisible tiles that are used in 1-3 to give the illusion of the water's surface.)

Knock yourself out, Just make sure to get invisible blocks and checkpoints.

EDIT: I should point out; once SE releases, we can easily make the enemies and their behaviors work perfectly.

Ohey, remember last October how I said I was recreating "Mario Tower"? Of course you don't, but I finally got off my ass and finished it.
DOWNLOAD IT FROM THIS FANCY SCHMANCY LINK.

You can find the tileset within the Mappack folder if you're interested.

Well done, Idiot9.0. The only flub that was present was setting 3-1's underwater section to have underwater music, while 3-3 was mute. Otherwise, a very faithful recreation of the original. :)

Anyone played the hack "Reverse Pipe X?" (unless I didn't put it in the archive yet)

I believe Maurice is still refusing to insert entry into upwards pipes.

Here were my attempts on porting "Super Kamikaze Mario Vol. 4"

You may be able to figure out why I stopped after playing 1-2.

Alright guys, I'm going to spare you this one SMB1 hack. This is an example of what's already loaded into SMB1's but is not used in any of the levels until SMB2J and the numerous ROM hacks that have surfaced. Count what's in this level-only hack that's not in Mari0.

Sounds like a plan!

Also, for anyone that wants a bit of a head start on the hacks that don't modify level graphics, I made this:
Image

It only has enough to cover SMB1, not 2J or ANN, and it can be considered a replacement to Mari0's default SMB1 tileset.

Your tileset helped me a lot to make a gray L-pipe for 1-2.

Well, the whole thing was very much enjoyable. The tile set was also done well, but the green "hilltop" platforms in 1-1, as well as the SMB3-esque breakable blocks are not pixel-perfect replicas of the original.

If you like, I can do a version of the tileset with everything ripped and spot-on, and then you can finish up the remainder of the levels. Of course since the order I sort the tiles in will be different from the current arrangement, this will rearrange the tiles in the first two levels, but if you're using the Better Level Editor they shouldn't be too hard to fix.

In fact, here's my quick roundup. Everything else you need is in the full SMB tile set.

Ummm...there is a light gray L-pipe in 1-2, and you didn't include that in yours.

I'm aware I didn't. I only ripped the tiles that were exclusive to the ROM hack, the intent was you could use what I ripped between the master SMB tileset and Bowser's Jumping Challenge and construct the tileset from there.

For a bit of a reference info, the hack ran three worlds (twelve levels).

OK. I made a tile set based on yours with the recommendations you said. I will come out with 1-3 and 1-4 soon.

Just wanted to bring this up to renhoek: With Qcode's "Infinite Worlds/Sublevels" mod, it may be a little easier to replicate the rooms in Extra Mario Bros.

thanks but It's just that it was a huge pain to get the map only to find out that I went the wrong way,
plus I don't really have the enthusiasm I had for making the map in the first place, I will get back to it though eventually... Probably.

Whenever you can or cannot is up to you, I don't want to force you to do something you're not enjoying.

Otherwise, I got a new hack ported.

World 1 is finally finished!

I had to make some compromises in 1-3 and 1-4, due to there only being one entity per block, and how the entities look.

http://www.mediafire.com/?4uwdn0sj72c14xh

So it seems I got dragged back into SMB1 hacks because of the Super Mario Bros. + mod TripleXZero made. I don't have any new tilesets at the moment, but I will bring up one particular hack I found interesting and worthy of a Mari0 treatment: Super? Mario Bros.

I will say, the lack of attention Mari0 gets from SMB1 hackers is quite incredible.

You know the modloader would be really useful for this. Especially for little things like modified jump heights, custom entity graphics and stuff.

I like your idea. I know there are some hacks that do modify player run speed/jump height, but not as many compared to the number of entity graphical hacks.

Glad to be of service! Speaking of entity graphic changes, if you wanted you could probably use the modloader for A0zora too. It wouldn't be hard, though it would probably get monotonous since you'd have to reference all the entities to graphics held within your mappack folder...

I guess it would be a bit grating for someone like myself, but it could lead to a lot of potential.

Anyways if you want to work with any spriting from SMB1 ROM hacks, feel free to do so.

I don't know enough about rom hacks to do much here, that said I did a bit of A0zora (the find & replace feature is immensely useful) I had a bit of trouble with the custom tiles and music, but I got the entity graphics and sound effects more or less in.

Well with how camewel and idiot didn't like the music and sound, I'd say all that's needed are the graphics and tile set improvements.

I'm not sure if I shared this previously, but for those who own Photoshop, and are recreating a level-only hack (without altered graphics) this was something I shared on the Super Mario Bros Crossover forums; a PSD file containing all three backgrounds from SMB1 all ripped directly as they're loaded in game. The cyan area represents where the scoreboard goes, and the blue is for the ground (in Mari0, you must subtract eight pixels from the top and bottom so both the cyan and blue areas are 24 pixels high each), then color the cyan and blue parts whichever color you're using for the background. Toggle the layers on or off to choose the theme, then save as a PNG in a mappack's folder with the title #-#background1.png (#-# being the world-level number.

They're intended to be used with the master SMB1 tileset I made some time ago, since the blue sky colors between the backgrounds and tileset are identical, and Mari0's default SMB1 tileset's colors does not match the colors used in NEStopia.

Of course I'm not stoping you from using standard ingame tiles to make the BG's. Whichever proves to be the most convent of methods to you, use it.

A bump, I know, but I quick dug these up out of the Extra Mario Bros. ROM.

Yeah those are Helmet Goombas, Kounbabas, Fire, Helmuts, Bolt Cheep Cheeps, and Metroids you're seeing in there.

So Super Mario Unlimited got a bit of love the other day after James Rolfe received it as a homebrew NES cart and showed gameplay footage.

Temporary grids to use in the editor, available in two different colors. The lighter/darker lines on the last column are for signaling new screens.

I find it quite sad that this project of mine didn't take off like I initially thought it would. I suppose it's since people would rather do their own maps from scratch instead of porting over someone's existing work, and not to mention Mari0 has a lot more freedom in level designing than SMB1/2J allows.
