This is an attempt to re-create hacks of the original NES game Super Mario Bros. for play in Mari0. If anyone'd like to contribute, you may find my own personal collection of hacks below.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/auf9he8o5xxkz ... e.zip?dl=0

Recommended guidelines are as follows.
*Each port must resemble the original as much as possible, and must work with the vanilla unmodded version of Mari0. You may bundle mods which modify entities to resemble those found in the hack in question. However, the map layouts and their tile sets should match the hack. Use SMB Utility to get the maps in a much easier process; or the Game Genie codes  AETLTK  (Infinite Jump Height),  STPENT  (X-Ray Vision), and  ANTOSA  (pipes that cannot be entered have swapped graphics) if you want to remake it all from emulation and make the job a tad bit easier.
*With the inclusion of SE, do not add any form of vertical scrolling in any level. This is only permitted in hacks (of what very few exist) that have vertical scrolling-levels.
*Custom enemies are optional, but recommended.
*Please remember to check for checkpoints via suiciding!
*If you can, you can include custom song(s) from the hack if any music in the ROM hack is modded. You can grab some sample music I've ripped myself here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/9ohvrf4ffmxlm ... s.zip?dl=0 (Paper Sai's overworld theme does not loop properly)

SMB1 tileset for level-only hacks (uses NEStopia's palette rather than Mari0's)

Current hacks ported:

All map packs listed below are for Mari0 1.6 and are incompatible with Mari0 SE unless run through the converter:
Any hacks made using Alesan99's entities or other custom-content mods will not be shown.

neat idea,
I'll see what I can do to help out.
I notice that you seem to like smb hacks while I was lurking at the websites you're at.

also how'd idiot find out about this?
EDIT: never mind I found where he did that.

You need an emulator (such as NEStopia) to play the hacks.

The idea of this thread is to create mappacks that are near-perfect replicas of hacked SMB ROMs, as me and Idiot9.0 have done with two particular hacks. The ROMS as themselves are nonfunctional in Mari0, so as someone that specializes in and collects hacks of SMB, I though why not port some of them for play in Mari0?

On other news, I got Tower R E's tileset ripped, incase anyone has plans to remake it; just to save a few minutes. Image

Another new tile set; this time for Extra Mario Bros. May consider making one for Paper Sai or Sakura next.

UPDATE: Got one for Sakura.

I'd like to be on the team that ports Extra mario bros,
but I think that would require a large amout of modding to work.

And you forgot a tile

Extra Mario Bros would need so many things modded in, it's like a Metroidvania game all it's own.

Anyway I'm recreating the Hack "Mario Tower". It's pretty much a shorter, easier version of Tower R E, having only 8 levels. I'll edit this post with the finished mappack when I am finished.

I'm aware I forgot the grey/teal lava; I initially made the tileset for another Mario fangame with an editor; Mario Builder; which didn't let you insert animated versions of lava or any basic tile.

I'll update the sheet later with the teal lava, bubbles (one frame each in all their colors) and waterfalls added. I may also add in more frames of existing sprites, like the stars in Area 1 and Area 4's above-water segment, Area 2's flower and Area 4's seaweed. I could also do Area 5's moving lights.

I'm not excepting Extra Mario to be remade from scratch; but instead a basic linear map pack that has rooms inspired by it; without the upgrades.

EDIT: I added the additional tiles, and fixed some existing ones.

I guess I could have a whack at it,
I'll do some room designs later the reason I can't do it right now is because I'm updating my computer and have to back up some files.

Well you're free to work on it whenever you can.

And just for reference (incase you want to know how the rooms are laid out in the hack), here's the map of the game

I was kinda thinking of I'd just make remaking the game without the exploration and have you go to the next room... It's really hard for me to explain my idea so I'll try to summarize it.

the numbers on the rooms correspond to where you'd be at that point in the game.

There are a few hacks that only run a few levels. Bouncing Mario has only one level, and so does Mario Goes Underground. If I remember, Miracle goes on for four levels.

Crazy Luigi and Neo Mario (both from Ultimessiah) are average-lengthed, with three worlds each.

I've run into a problem, I can't get the editor you suggested to work with extra mario bros, can someone help me? I can't rip the map properly and it's really hard to judge distance (I like being precise with my remakes.)

That's one problem with SMB Utility; if the hack in question contains loads of custom content or screws with the original code to add stuff in, the utility will be unable to load in the ROM.

I can say, most things considered; every room in the game has a width of 16 times the number of screens it takes to display a full room. I've updated the map so it contains the proper locations of all the keys and upgrades that can be found; the darker areas being the areas initially not marked in the original game's help file.

One thing that can help; if you're playing EMB emulated, try to match the screen size of both Mari0 and the emulator playing EMB. Not sure if this can help much; but it doesn't have to be a pixel-perfect conversion of the maps.

P.S. I made a small upgrade to the tileset.

The width of the "pipe rooms" used to transport between the areas is always at a fixed 64 blocks. I also forgot to map out the very first secret area in the first room of the game, which requires you to have Super Fire to access it, and I've since updated the map so it includes this portion of the area.

Oh, and one more thing; I've updated the sheet yet again (sorry for the constant updates) but now I've bothered to include fake walls. Since Mari0 has no "destroy tiles using fire" gimmick, they are now walls you can easy travel through.

something I noticed about the tile in extra is that,
some of the edge bushes are pulled out all the way while some aren't.

Will you be able to update the sheet to include this?

The collection of hacks has been updated. Though there aren't many new ones, the highlight for me was Arranged NICONICO Douga Aneki Mario.

It's alright, I never expected a port for Extra Mario to be done, just a new map using its tileset and similar rooms.

In other news, here's a tileset for Aneki Mario.

I just plan on porting all the rooms, someone else can organize them.
as for now though I'm taking a brake from level making because I've lost the erg to do level making.

I'll get back to it soon.

Gotcha.

Anyways, I did a port of Aneki Mario. It's very likely not to be pixel-perfect, but it has all 4 levels. I'm warning you guys, this port retains most, if not all the Kaizo blocks from the hack. Feel free to replace them with visible Used blocks in the editor, depending on your preferences.

Well, you're welcome to get an NES emulator and download the ZIP in the first post, it has all the hacks of SMB that I could obtain, many of which are more than just visual modifications.

I'm going to seek out a few more hacks, like ones that envelop vertical scrolling, and one of these hacks is a sequel to Panic Room; though not at the moment since it's late in my area.

The tiles you have are quite good; however I believe it's worth mentioning the non-solid blocks have both the white and darker grey colors inverted. If you want, I can finish up Alcatraz's tiles, and then you can work on everything else (just make sure to check for invisible blocks).

With the holidays approaching, would anyone like to do a port of Toad's Christmas Adventure?

For anyone cautious, here's the next hack I'm porting. Shimmysystem/CKY-2K's Jackass.
http://youtu.be/o5cFSCbF-RE
Everything is complete sans for 1-3 at the time I'm writing this.

It's all being done through footage provided in the video, so it's basically the first recreation of a hack that's physically impossible to obtain at this time. It will not be 100% exact, but I'm aiming to get the maps to be as faithful to the hack as possible.
EDIT: Avast; it's ready!
