What is the program used for spriteing

If it doesn't fit elsewhere, it should go here

Very thoughtful post there buddy.

Many people tend to use Photoshop, Gimp, or Paint.net for their spriting needs. Photoshop isn't free, but it's great if you can get a hold of it.
Gimp and Paint.net are free, and Gimp can do about everything Photoshop is capable of as well.
So there's your options. Google them up if you need more info on them.

There are three programs I work with: Photoshop CS5, Gimp and Paint.net.
I each use them for a different task.
Paint.net for spriting and basic/quick editing of images (scaling, rotating, scewing and what not.). Opens up very quickly compared to the other two.
Gimp for Gif image editing and creating. Slow on starting up and I don't get half of the program. Everything seems to be done through a detour or something...
Photoshop CS5 for everything else. Slow on starting up, but it makes up for it for what it can do and what I need it for.
These three all allow use of layers, channels (Except for Paint.net) and transparency. Which I all use a lot.
So it all depends on what you want from it. I suggest you check out Paint.net and Gimp. I personally don't find Photoshop that suited for spriting though.

how do you animate with photoshop? Or is it still just spriting we're talking about?

I surprisingly have the same problem with Photoshop and spriting. For some reason, I'm not able to sprite very good with it. That's why I currently have Paint.NET, but I'm thinking on getting Gimp instead.

I just know how to do spriting well. I play alot of video games, I pretty much know what looks good and bad, what colors mix well, And which color to pick when 2 things are in the same pixel spot. If anyone needs any ORIGINAL (don't know how to "rip" sprites) Sprites, Call me.
