Ok, sorry for bugging this website, but I want to know how to properly insert custom tiles into mari0 (not se) 1.6.
Anyone got the answers?
Also, any good tiles would be nice.

Download Paint.Net. If you don't have Photoshop that's the next best thing for making tiles.

You don't need an image editor to add custom tiles to your mappack.
Just put the tileset in the mappack folder that you would like to add them to, and rename the image to tiles.png
If you don't have file extensions enabled just make the filename "tiles" and check if it's a PNG beforehand, otherwise it wont work properly.
As for an image editor, since you're having issues with Paint.NET, you could try GIMP, which is also cross-platform.

In GIMP you can add an alpha channel to remove it most of the time, so see if that helps. http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-layer-alpha-add.html
If not, then you can use the magic wand tool, make the threshold 0, and then select the white area and press delete. http://docs.gimp.org/en/gimp-tool-fuzzy-select.html
If you prefer to use something other than GIMP just use an editor that supports transparency (pretty much everything except for MS Paint and some legacy software) and it should be self explanatory from there.

I don't see why it wont let you use them; could you describe in more detail what the problem is? Are you sure they're in the folder of the mappack you want them in? Maybe try using a known working tileset like this one?
Also, your tiles are the wrong dimensions, each tile should be 17x17px, not 18x18px. Here's a fixed version.

Follow this video here to make sure you're doing everything correctly.
I opened up Mari0, went to mappacks, pressed M, navigated to the correct folder of the mappack, added the tiles and renamed it to tiles.png, and opened up the mappack and went to the tiles tab, then custom tiles.

I added a transcript incase it wasn't playable.
Here's some more things to help troubleshoot the issue:
Are you sure the tiles.png is in the correct mappack folder?
Is the file named "tiles.png.png"? (You can check by right-clicking the file and selecting Properties, assuming you're running Windows)
Are you checking the custom tab under the tiles tab in the editor?
If you're still having issues you can join the IRC channel and get help from there.

Ok, Mari0Maker, let me explain my FULL problem. I am running windows 8 and am using alesean99's entities modded mari0 application. I have tried using tilesets that work, named them accordingly, put it in the correct thing, check the custom tiles, and nope. I have literally tried everything I know. So there you go. Hopefully that gives you a bit of advice.
Can you tell us where you are putting the tileset?
Just copy-paste the text in the top bar like in the picture (The part that is highlighted)
