There's still Valve. Although, there's a thing were you give them a small percentage and use their content. Not sure if this applies to Mari0, though.
Either way, I don't think Maurice will ever do it. Even if he could, Mari0's already well-known for being free, and it's not new. I know, he could sell SE, but I don't think it'd work either. Besides, it is all made in LÖVE, and I haven't seen yet a way of sharing LÖVE games that can't be "pirated" (read: *I* haven't seen yet)...

Anything can be pirated.
He could publish it on steam.
Haha, yeah I don't think it's going to happen, but this is pretty cool.

This for Nintendo not Valve.
I really don't understand why people get exited about a monetized version of Mario it just seems like a weird thing to get excited about.

At least this would allow me to make a SMB1-styled game that's 100% authentic to the original.
Nintendo made that one already.

On the upside, things like Mario Bros. Crossover could now be sold meaning the fact that team hasn't worked on their SAS game since March shouldn't be as big of a problem.
If they were Japanese.
Since the "article" implies the west doesn't count in this.

Wouldn't the sprites/music/sound still be unusable, though?
Or is this allowed, too?

Not really because most of the characters crossed over don't belong to Nintendo.Mr.Q.Marx? wrote:On the upside, things like Mario Bros. Crossover could now be sold meaning the fact that team hasn't worked on their SAS game since March shouldn't be as big of a problem.

It's extremely vague and last I checked it only applies to making videos and art, and even then only in Japan.
Games is what they're about and don't think for a second they'll just let anyone (without a lengthy contract like it already is) use Mario's likeness or name for games.
