Look, it's been months since any update related to ANY game.
Either Maurice is dead or Stabyourself is not interested in games anymore and want to expand into the porn industry

OR mabye he is busy doing real life work. You never know, he could be working on it and keeping ideas secret. Its better to wait awhile than get a crappy beta version thats buggy and all that. But I like that porn idea though.

Welcome to the Internet, where people will take as much time as the want to release something, no matter how simple it looks on paper.

I'm just going to make this clear because I know someone's going to read this wrong.

No matter how simple you think something is, it's going to take forever to do.
And pestering people about it doesn't make them more encouraged it just causes more stress and makes you look like a self entitled prat.

If you like something, encourage the person who made it or find a way of helping.
but being impatient and stating something's dead just because YOU haven't seen anything is extremely assholish.

Hopefully Maurice won't hate me for writing in his name and mentioning stuff that has been strictly internal so far.

Itemized list of things to know:
  • Maurice is currently finishing his driving school of witchcraft (or something like that) and has been working full time for a while.
  • I still have to finish (and by finish I mean start) my diploma work and I have been working full time for even longer (our situations are a bit different).
  • Like we said a quadrillion times, Stabyourself.net is a hobby and we work on it when we feel like it, even if that ends up meaning some sense of guilt for lack of updates for our crybaby community.
  • Just kidding, you guys are all right. Not everyone but you know what I mean.
  • Mari0 online multiplayer is basically cancelled. It was first developed as a rough test only, but an acquaintance of ours offered to work on the MP. He didn't get anything done because he started working on a commercial game (Stanley parable) and basically forgot about Mari0 as time went by.
  • Maurice is the kind of guy who get a lot done in a short time, when he feels like it. However, Mari0 grew so much since the beginning that he doesn't feel like he even made it (even though we both know that's bullshit), so his motivation to work on it is lower. It's similar though not as bad with other games.
  • For the above reason, Mari0 SE is on hiatus until maybe it suddenly isn't anymore (thought it is, if I recall correctly, mostly done).
  • We both want to make a new game and currently the plan is to make something completely new (as in, not based on SMB, or Legend of Halo or an Avatar game) - but we won't start until we get struck by a smooth idea for the gameplay.
  • If that's any comfort, Mari0 SE may be stuck right now, but at least nobody wasted $567665 on it.

This makes it sound like I'm doing my driver's license.

By this point I think it's safe for me to say I wasn't one of those folks that wanted SE for the online multiplayer. For me SE was meant to bring in new features, fix bugs, make the editor easier to use by incorporating functions from mods of 1.6 (Like the Better Level Editor, Extra Worlds/Sublevels, etc.).

I think that's actually most people (that don't want SE just for online multiplayer). I certainly wasn't particularly interested in it from the get-go, so I would imagine by now that isn't a significant concern

Also that was a nice explanation from Sašo; although the original question wasn't exactly necessary or tactful this highlights a lot anyway

I never cared about online multiplayer honestly.

I pop back in to this place and see this thread, and I was not surprised to see who made it.

Games take time to make. Try making your own game with this big of an ambition. Then come talk to us about how long it takes to make games. And all that jazz.

Are you claiming it take all this time due that the game is big or something

It had online multiplayer though.

Am I the only one wondering why this thread is still active?

Someone asked a (poorly-worded imo) question about development, and despite the conversation getting so far off they put a part of it in the Shame Chamber, Sašo gave more than enough info about it.

I mean I'd understand if we were legitimately discussing progress (or the lack of it) but it seems you two are just blatantly ignoring explanations. Rudely bickering despite a preexisting resolution to the conflict (caused by the tactless mood of this thread) isn't going to change anything.

This thread appears to have been made in a way that ensured arguing, yet even after the question was factually answered in a non-confrontational way this still happens:

You could at least TRY to keep this a discussion rather than a meaningless argument

Neither Saso or Maurice had a reaction and I'm crying of laughter here.

Anyway, indie game devs who don't make much money off of their games tend to not continue working on games unless they're bored and need something to do. Unless you want to pay for this, deal with it.

It's always important to keep in mind that, while we don't always say it, the reason we are so anxious for new updates is because of what incredible designers you are. I realize this is just a hobby for you guys, and not one I am particularly envious of, (I made one very basic, very bad, game through Gamemaker, which doesn't require any coding, and even that was very difficult for me.) but you guys do amazing work, and should be proud. I will wait patiently for the SE to be released, but I do hope that it is released (even if some of the features need to be cut). If not for the fans, then at least for yourselves. You and Maurice have done so much work on it, and it would be a shame to see it just sit in a file somewhere for the next decade, rotting away (that's what happens to unused files, right? I really don't know much about programming).
