Don't know if this question is asked already or not, but is online co-op possible? cos I know a few friends who'd love to muck about with this game

This is the most suggested/demanded feature, it's planned for SE but it might not make it in.

Since this is the most anticipated feature, I do not wish to release the game without it. If something like the overworked Portal campaign wouldn’t be done yet, I could release the game without and then update again when that is done, but it’s simply not an option for me with online play.

Yeah I might actually consider ditching online multiplayer, Camawel is right.
I don't understand the hype for it anyway.

"Camawel is right."
dammit Maurice.
It's Camewel, as in Came-well, except "well" is changed to "wel", like in "welcome".

What'd be hilarious right now is if Camewel's name changed to Camawel so Maurice's spelling would be correct.

But then Maurice would have to say 'Camewel'.

For me, SE was more for the new features and not for the online multiplayer. I wanted to see all the new stuff SE includes considering the huge gap between it and 1.6, so I can finally start on my new version of A0zora.

I love this post just for being such a unique case of hypocrisy.

If the decision comes to scrapping the online multiplayer, I just wanna say that if the reaction to this is predominantly negative, you shouldn't cave in on your decision.
You said it yourself. You're no longer having fun coding Mari0 (Albeit you said this in a more damage-controlled manner), and the Online MP is very difficult. Why should you continue to do something you don't want to do, when you have the freedom to do what you want with it?

Woah, didn't expect THAT to happen...

Regardless, thank you for answering my question. It's a pity, but them's the breaks, eh?

I agree with HAPPYFACES. If Maurice isn't getting any sense accomplishment or enjoyment working on Mari0, why not just tidy up everything, remove any traces of online multiplayer, and try releasing SE as it is without the online multiplayer?

Maurice isn't actually the person making online multiplayer. Anyone (who stalks blog comments) will know that "Gran PC" is making it, not Maurice. And "Gran PC" isn't having a very easy time doing it.

I missed that bit of info, actually. Good to know, however my point still stands; no matter who is making it, if you're not having fun and it is very difficult, you have the freedom to simply scrap it. Long-time followers of SYS and those that respect the developers should understand the choice and accept it.

Also that wasn't QUITE my point. My idea behind it is if Maurice, Saso, and Gran want to please the fans of Mari0, they should continue at their own pace. If they would rather scrap a project that's proving to be more trouble than its worth, and aren't having very much fun trying to work it out, they have the freedom to simply dismiss it.
(Like, I'm not trying to push the release of SE, that would be the point I'm trying to make if anyone misses that.)

While the others rage about the lack of online multiplayer.
But honestly, if they don't want to make online right now, then they don't have to.

I know Maurice listens to the community, but honestly, why should he care about the majority of Mari0 fans if they're no more than ~13 years old and have proven to be immature? (To separate the ones who are mature; I know you're out there.) Most of them are here because of the announcement that there will be Online MP. On top of that, if they don't understand that it was impossible to do for SYS, the rage will just be white noise in the background.

Edit: Sorry if it feels I'm raining on everyone's parade, but I feel a lot of game developers have demanding fans. So for an indie developer who has some other things going on in his life besides making games, I think we should back up on the demands and give him some god damn space.

Gran PC was(/is?) working on a commercial version of stanley's parable and ended up never really taking the time. Haven't talked to him for some time though.

So wait... The hiatus is due to the fact Gran PC is the one responsible for Online Multiplayer, and you guys haven't been able to contact him on the status of his work because he's working on something else? Am I reading this right?

Then why post man, then why post?

Also, just release SE without online, then start making online. Most, but not all, just want the new features SE has.

He offered to do online multiplayer so Maurice stopped working on that part. However, there hasn't been much progress so far.

So Gran is suffering from severe issues with the online Co-Op or is it due to lack of time to work on it or laziness?

I visit this forum every day in hopes of seeing something worth discussing, and every now and then something does come along, but one thing has bothered me:

WHY.
IS.
THIS.
THREAD.
NOT.
LOCKED?

Every time I come here, someone has posted in here trying to discuss something that doesn't need any more discussion. Multiplayer will have to wait, end of the damn discussion. Someone make a FAQ pointing this out, please?

Because shit happens. Saso doesn't have to (or possibly doesn't have time to) lock every single thread. This one will die out, presumably in the next couple of posts, so chill your tits and don't come back to it if you don't want to see it, sound great? Great. I'm done here too, I've said my piece. Or peace.

Mari0 is not "killed for good" by any stretch of the imagination. There is so much potential for amazing levels in SE, I'm pretty hyped about the kind of levels people are going to make, the waves of new, amazing mappacks. Add on all the other features, like looking through portals, same block portals (finally wooo) and SE is a big improvement on Mari0 vanilla. If people really want online that much, then they can go be entitled dicks to some other overworked indie dev.
