SUGGESTION: autoscrolling

I came up with a idea for auto scrolling. There could be a simple selection or a complicated selection. The simple one could be a pick a direction and speed and the advanced one can have something where you have the screen scroll a curvy patch
Rough drawing with the advanced option you could have each line have different speeds and all kinds of stuff
on the top we have the basic autoscroller
and the bottom the advanced

I remember Maurice saying he hated autoscrolling (same as with him hating turrets) so I wouldn't count on this making it into SE. Though you did remind me of one of the final levels of Yoshi's Island DS where the scrolling actually overlapped an earlier part of the level.

I wouldn't mind the addition of autoscroll levels, but I don't really see it being used much. From my experience with Mario in general, people tend to hate autoscroll levels just as much as they hate water levels. But heck, if Maurice was able to find a way to make portals work with them, then I'm all for adding them in.

few other ideas:
portals stay there but since they are off screen so if you use them you die.
or the portals grip to the walls

At Jackostar10000 you'll also need to be able to specify the distance it scrolls before stopping (To allow you to change when it starts scrolling in another direction or to return to regular following-Mario behaviour.) and also the speed it scrolls at.
As for portals, I'm not entirely sure how to handle that. Perhaps include among the options that control the scrolling, an option to specify a screen side that can accept portals anywhere along it (they get stuck to the side and never go off screen)? Can be changed each time the scrolling behavior changes?

portals if touching the walls could explode. and with my example drawing i have an advanced editor. where you can pick points where the screen focuses

LIST OF PORTAL / AUTO SCROLLING IDEAS:
stay there but are death if you use them cause they are off screen
stick to walls
explode
if 2 are activated and one goes of screen the other portal acts like a black hole sucking near by objects in.
act like normal and redirects the screen\
portal dies then so do you.
screen stops
mario stabs himself
if it does off screen its nothing big but a couple of enemies drop into the level via lakitu or maybe the level scrolls faster or slower
post your ideas
