Perhaps there could be a feature added for foregrounds images the same way as custom backgrounds? (Foreground as in the layer in front of the plane the player is on.)

And maybe (thought not entirely necessary), custom 8x8 tiles as well?

the first one is a good idea, not so much the second one. nes uses 16by16 so i dont think it will be implemented

IIRC parallax scrolling foreground is already in.

And could you elaborate on the custom 8x8 tiles? I think I'm missing something.

The 8x8 tiles thing was a stupid suggestion, but basically, along with the regular 16 pixel by 16 pixel tiles, perhaps 8 by 8 could be implemented. That suggestion could and should be ignored, though. I'm more interested in foregrounds.

the 16x16 tiles are made up of 8x8 tiles but I don't think an nes could really handle 8x8 tiles for games.

well for "corner" tiles you could just make an 8x8 in the corner and then leave everything else transparent. Which might be good in map making.

But then your character would stand on air when not on the coloured corner of the square.

Aren't 8x8 tiles half of 16x16? In that case, just put two 8x8 tiles into a 16x16 tile.

Notice how I said I no longer care for the 8x8 suggestion.
