[Suggestion] Something with the "Start level screen"
to make something like this:
make an image without the details like lives, level, scores, time, etc. and put in the screen.
if you have any question, you can post it here

I like the idea but most for the part that you can write something under the lifes thingy, for exampele:
«You failed, try another way this time» (if it's a puzzle map)

Reminds me of the New Super Mario Bros. U "Start Level" screen.
I like this idea. :)

Have this suggestion be compatible with numerous images. So then you can have each world have a different intermission.
Then you have me sold on the idea.

I can see this being a very successful concept miles away.
I like this idea.
Uninteresting Programmer Babble follows:
It's sort of hard to do at the moment because the "levelscreen" (the black thing we're talking about) is displayed before the level is even loaded. The level starts loading at the end of it. It would probably be a good idea to change this to right after the levelscreen is displayed because then I can also hide short loading times, but it will require some restructuring which I don't really feel comfortable with because it's one year old code and I may not be very familiar with it anymore. I'll try though.

I lol'd like crazy at that pic. Nice to see the feature is working though.
All these hipsters with their Photostore and whatnot.
I stay real with paint.
Edit:
I made a wallpaper out of that image for everyone

I added a lens flare because why not.

.... I am so using that. I will display it proudly.Maurice wrote: I made a wallpaper out of that image for everyone

Based on Maurice's screenshot (not the wallpaper one), I believe it already is a thing now. And I think the important text would get drawn over the image, so unless you're an ass and cover the whole screen in white, it should display properly. Maurice, feel free to prove me wrong on both my statements.popcan12 wrote:My god, if that was an actually thing, just overlaying stuff over the black of the levelscreen, you could cover up importent things, like the lives or level or just cover everything and leave it blank. My god.

I think the text would go over the background, like it was in the initial screen in the first post.
But with Maurice's post, I can see how people would misuse this feature.

If a mappack does this and you don't like it, that means the mappack is shit and you won't play it.
The problem solves itself.
I had an idea of how I'd use this feature. So I put it into picture form
I like how it looks.

The only thing I'd ask about this by far is a setting to turn these on or off in the options menu.

I love the idea i really want to name my levels...
you could change the colours and even have little bubbles that are on it with sneak peaks into the level! witch could be done with some tool

Maybe it could also show what enemies are in the level like Super Mario Bros. All*Stars. :)
It could also show what theme the level is (if you designate it).

There should defintly be a option to switch around with this stuff in mappacks. Some people would want different previews of the mappack.
Yeah I agree. Mappacks should be possible to switch with levels in the multiplayer and sometimes singleplayer to make the enemies less behave inside sublevels and warpzones. It's one huge flaw.Mari0Maker wrote:There should defintly be a option to switch around with this stuff in mappacks. Some people would want different previews of the mappack.
I wanna see the level design of snow ice world.
Anyway, here's something:

It's my phone background. (the first snapshot. I don't really like the lens flare.)
The first time I saw this post, I thought it said "Maurice should use." and I was like "Maurice should use WHAT!?!?!?"xXxrenhoekxXx wrote:Maurice should sue.
I did read it. Just incorrectly.

Justin Correctly did what?
I like this idea a lot! Thought I'd make a little suggestion. Perhaps at the Start Level Screen (as an option), you could put in a chapter name like in Portal 2. Here's an example.

I like that idea of game-over words!
And maybe, also something for the end of each castle...

mappack content is loaded once you press n player game, this keeps a nice difference between generic mari0 and custom mappackSnowconez wrote:I am really liking some of these ideas! Will it be possible for the title screen to be edited too? I'd love to be able to edit the button, selector and logo sprite.
maybe, it's a similar idea so why notBobTheLawyer wrote:And maybe, also something for the end of each castle...
also this
Blank out the score, coin count, world number, timer, lives counter etc. and most examples here can be used as is in current Mario SE without any additional support. Just set your image and bam, you have your fancy graphic/message under where the Lives counter appear.

I really hope in SE you'll be able to fully customize the HUD and Start Level screen. :D

Expanding on that Super Mario Bros. 3 thing, it'd be cool if we could make extended maps to fit the whole screen, maybe do a NSMB Wii U thing and puzzle the worlds together somehow? Anyways, I edited the photo some and added more surroundings, but got sick of it

I think it should be customizable, so we can change colors of the text and choose what isn't there.
But other than that, I agree.xXxrenhoekxXx wrote:yeah I'm kinda tired of seeing how many lives I have left in a level.BobTheLawyer wrote:I think it should be customizable, so we can change colors of the text and choose what isn't there.
