joystick issues
I have a linux (Ubuntu 11.04 x86_64) host, with love 0.8.0 unstable installed. Game runs fine. I can set up the controls and it detects the buttons, but whatever button I assign to jump does nothing. Additionally, using a gamepad is pretty worthless since you cant have two hands on a gamepad and a third on the mouse for portal. Can you make the controls work with the d-pad and/or left side analog for moving around and the camera control for moving the portal and the triggers for right/left?

works fine with mine, using ps3 controller hookup threw usb 2.0 cable and assigned all buttons but you have to go to player 2 go to using keyboard click enter go back to player 1 then assign buttons well for me everything working fine like that.
I was using an XB360 controller for windows (wired), though I have a wireless too. What was your secret to success? I only had one player btw.
edit, if I switch to a 2 player game and let mario stay off screen, the portal thing sort of works. camera pad is funky- ~top is aim right, ~right = aim up, ~down = aim left, ~left = aim down. Jump also works, but due to the camera stick issues, its not very playable =/

I'm having the same issue, I changed the 2nd player to "Keyboard Owner" [yes] and then went back to one to try and map out the controls using a wired xbox 360 controller (all proper drivers and software are up to date and work on official microsoft games and emulators) but no joy...loconut wrote:I was using an XB360 controller for windows (wired), though I have a wireless too. I am using a wireless xbox 360 controller with wireless receiver, and it will only jump with external programs.
Joy2Mouse3 lets me connect my (A) key to the SpaceBar, which is the only way to jump using a controller.
Joy2Mouse3 also, as the name suggests, allows me to shoot portals with a joystick controlling the mouse. It's easy to set-up, but doesn't tell you what button is which on your joystick.
TL;DR: download Joy2Mouse3, only way I've found.

After seeing your post, i changed mouseowner to player 2, reallocated all of its keys, and after some fiddling with neg and pos, it works.
settings:
LEFT JOY1AXE1NEG
RIGHT JOY1AXE1POS
UP JOY1AXE2NEG
DOWN JOY1AXE2POS
RUN JOY1BUT2
JUMP JOY1BUT1
RELOAD JOY1BUT3
USE JOY1BUT4
AIMX JOY1AXE4POS
AUXY JOY1AXE5POS
PORTAL1 JOY1BUT6
PORTAL2 JOY1BUT5

You still have to use the arrow keys and enter button to select the functions to work on a 360 controller. Is that the problem?
For others: remember, the play and charge kit for wireless controllers DOES NOT work for PC, you have to get a little wireless receiver for it to work.
