More Uses For Fireballs?
I had this idea when reading through the ? brick thread. Basically, you shoot a fireball at it and it sends a signal. This could be used to make some interesting fire flower puzzles (they are currently not common in portal mappacks) such as: (warning sucky as sh*t pic)
test 01: Shoot a fireball into a room with a bunch of enemies until you reach the trigger, which opens the door to test 02.
test 02: Use portals to get your fireball to the trigger to turn off that pesky light bridge in your way.
What do you guys think? Could it be a mod? Or do you guys think it should be part of Mari0: SE? Discuss.

I personally feel that this may be a pretty good idea, although there may not be a lot of practical uses for it (or I'm just not creative.)
It could be neat if it is used in conjunction with fire balls bouncing higher off the peak of an upward slope (If there is slopes, if there aren't then slopes will be part of this explanation anyways so nyah) and objects that can reverse the direction of fireballs and/or change a fireball to move along walls and ceilings.RWLabs wrote:I personally feel that this may be a pretty good idea, although there may not be a lot of practical uses for it (or I'm just not creative.)
For just a trigger switch all I can think of is bouncing your shot over moving hard hats, basically a timing puzzle.

This makes me wonder if someones gonna mod in the things in portal 1 that bounce around until they get to the place they need to be.
It seems like a thing that would have a bunch of uses but doesn't. All I could think of is unlocking a door after getting the fire flower or a precise fireball into a detector.
Also the obvious shoot a fireball through a portal.

This is actually pretty clever. I think it could make for some pretty interesting puzzles.
I think the VVVVVVV gel could do the walls+ceiling thing, and pre-placed portals can reverse your fireball.

This was actually something I had thought about but never bothered to talk about it on the forums. It's basically a box with a funnel attached to any end(s), with a picture of a fireball. When shot at, it works kind of like the small buttons Mario presses, and can be linked with anything. THe downside is that reset pipes would have to be spread around so if the player takes damage and loses the fireball ability, he/she is not forced to suicide.
On a similar structure, how about blocks that can be destroyed by fireballs? Super Mario Land 2, anyone?

Changed topic title.

Interesting idea. I feel like a new entity for my mod coming on.Turret Opera wrote:I had this idea when reading through the ? brick thread. I think it would be plausible and more effective if fireballs could bounce off wall
I mean like small mario can go pretty much everywhere fireball can, we need some kind of holes or roads that only bouncy fireballs can go in (it could replace tiny mario in some specific situation)
Or am I just missing somethings?

Fireballs bounce off cubes, doors, and the like. I think that would make these things pretty interesting.Chippy348 wrote:I think it would be plausible and more effective if fireballs could bounce off wall

How about fireball emitters (to elaborate, like gel emitters)? Or fire bros from smb3?
Or maybe just plain fire that gets bigger with every fireball?
