While I haven't been able to get mari0 to run for me (yet) under Gentoo, I did whip up an ebuild for building Love directly from the repository. Hope this helps someone else :-)

LÖVE 0.8.0 doesn't support PPC. You might be able to get it running by getting all the necessary PPC frameworks yourself and compiling the source with xcode, but as of 0.8.0 there is no official support for PPC.samkostka wrote:Is there any way to get love unstable on OSX? the native app won't run, says it's not supported on this architechture. I have a PPC mac from 04, so that might be it but it runs everything else just fine.

Running Ubuntu 11.10 on a HP Pavillion DV6 laptop (ATI graphic card), I installed love-unstable and it works.
However, after I closed the game, the laptop STILL is slowed down and heats up a lot (the fan is going crazy), while I only have a browser opened. So you guys might want to check it out, but maybe there's a memory leak or some thread which goes on running? I don't know Lua or Love, it looks high-level enough to have its own garbage collector, but still.
(Or maybe it's just love-unstable being... unstable)
EDIT: nvm, it didn't happen again, so it probably was just a temporary problem.

It's normal that I've not C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Love\ folder? Cause I've created for mistake empty custom map, and now I don't now how to delete them... I've searched folders with names like "love" or "mari0", but nothing appened. (Having Windows XP Sp3)
Can't launch Mari0 1.1 in Win7 SP1 Pro x86, it always crashes. BTW have same problem with Not Tetris 2.
My notebook Asus F5R specs is:
CPU Intel Celeron T2080 (1.73Ghz)
RAM 1Gb
GPU ATI Radeon Xpress 1100
I think that problem with old GPU drivers, but they are latest available. Or OpenAL implementation related.
Crashreport, if it helps http://www38.zippyshare.com/v/14575924/file.html
Also wrong information in the first post - today I've successfully launched Mari0 on WinXP SP2 Pro x86.

The next version of mari0 should fix it I think. If you don't want to wait, you can try running the mari0 source with this version of LÖVE https://love2d.org/builds/love-20120304 ... efault.zipCorsten wrote:Can't launch Mari0 1.1 in Win7 SP1 Pro x86, it always crashes. Sweet Game. I can play the Nintendo map pack just fine tad bit slow, but the portal map pack is super slow.
I turned off Aero little change if any.
I found that if i change the Scale to 1 instead of 2 it runs much faster, still a little drag but the screen is so small.
running mari0 1.1
windows 7
intel celeron 900 @ 2.20 GHz 2.19 GHz
RAM 3 GB
64-bit OS
Any thing else i forget?
Thanks for the help!

I've found that if I set 16 bit instead of 32 in the screen property, the game no longer crash, and the graphic is fixed too. Unfortunately the game works slow, and the only way to make it run at the right speed it's to set the scale value on 1 (the tiny little version). Any idea of why all of this happens?

I've build and packaged love 0.8.0 from git for opensuse. Also I've packaged mari0 itself. I've added a script which runs mari0 directly and a *desktop file and icon
Just checkout this:

game is running horridly slow for me (even with Gamebooster3 running, and process priority changed to high) unless on scale setting 1 (almost too small to see anything on my comp)
is there any way to fix this? usually fullscreening a game makes it run faster on my comp but there doesn't seem to be a way to do that for this game...
i'm running 32bit windows Vista with 2GB ram, AMD Athlon processor LE-1640 2.70 GHz, and no clue what my graphics card is, but i am able to easily run minecraft with no lag if that helps...?

most useful thing I've seen posted by a new user since release lol. Sorry once again, I'm kinda bad with computer software, but, based on these, what do you think I could do to improve my system? Basically, the only thing that I know is that I have very low ram. Yes of course. Feedback would be nice. But I think that there aren't any problems. löve from git was packaged on a clean build environment. I had this same problem (different brand of laptop though) and a hack solution for me was to use the onscreen keyboard to press the "Enter" key.Dr. Purple wrote:OK so:
I downloaded the updated game (the one that fixed the .dll error), extracted the files and started playing.
At first, there were no issues, and I was enjoying myself. After shutting own the game however, things changed.
Upon restarting the game, it was business as usual, and I was taken to the main menu screen. I could move
through the different options, even select the amount of players, but I could not select any of the options.
I cannot start the game, choose mappacks, change my settings or anything. I am currently running a
HP Pavilion Laptop with Windows 7, 1.9GHz dual core processor and 4GB RAM. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: So, I tried the modified .love file that replaces all instances of the enter key with backspace, and it works now!
Since then I have realised that if I hold the function key (Fn) and press Enter then it also works.
Hope this helped someone!!
Sam
The OS X version seems not packaged well, or rather not linked well.
initially the .app fails to run on my OS X 10.6.8
as the mpg123 framework in Mari0.app resides at Mari0.app/Contents/Frameworks/mpg123.framework, and its install_name is '@executable_path/../Framework/mpg123.framework/mpg123', meanwhile the executable 'MacOS/love' is linked against that very path.
That means the lib mpg123 should have been placed in the path, however, de facto it is under 'Mari0.app/Contents/Frameworks/mpg123.framework/Versions/A/mpg123' and the expected location has a ascii file named 'mpg123' which the dyld does not recognise.
Of course copy the 'Versions/A/mpg123' to the expected location could simply solve this problem, but would the developers please link frameworks, libraries and executable precisely?
BTW, other frameworks Mari0 uses do not have this issue.
UPDATE: oh its my mistake. I use 'tar' to unzip the downloaded file. Actually the package does not have this issue, because those files are symlinks...
But the linking path is odd for 'mpg123', I believe.

Do you have the latest version of Mari0 (v1.2)? Have you updated your graphics card drivers to work with Win8? Is it the developer preview or consumer preview?crewxp wrote:I get a mari0 has stopped working when trying to run the game. I'm running a 64-bit of windows. Hello all,
I am running win XP SP3 3.5 GB Ram. After going through all of these posts, I somewhat combined several inputs i read, and i was able to get it to work for me. I was running into the problem of the game not running at all, it would crash every time I tried to run it. Then i downloaded the Love.exe, and that was crashing on me as well, so what i did is i copied the game files into the same folder as the love.exe files, then i right clicked on the mari0_1.2.exe and went to properties, compatibility, and checked "Run in 640x480 screen resolution". After applying, i then dragged the mari0_1.2.exe over to the love.exe and it now runs wonderfully :)
I hope this helps any of those encountering problems like me.. and thank you all for your input, i created an account on here just so i could relay the info, and thank you all ...

I was having some troubles getting Mari0 to work, after some fiddling I finally got it to work... maybe these are obvious things but I thought I'd share them to help out any one having troubles.
Note this is on Ubuntu 11.10.
1. Make sure you're running the unstable version of Love. Open terminal and type "love-unstable --version" if it gives you a version then you're good.
2. Don't take mario.love out of the mari0-linux folder. For some reason if you do it doesn't work? (Might just be mine?)
3. Right click on the .love file and change the permissions to "Allow executing file as program". This will stop it from just viewing the files inside of the .love
4. If it still shows the files inside of the .love run it as sudo.

DevIL.dll - You have not extracted all files into a single folder. Make sure you extracted every single file from the archive and the run the game from that folder.
If you run into this error after extracting files don't click on the mariO.exe Just highlite the file then go to the top and click on open it will extract all icons into folder then you can click on mariO to play

I just get an empty box when I open it, and after 30 seconds or so it pops up with "mari0_1.2.exe has stopped working"
