Joypad Setup: Help Me Please

I just got Mari0 and I wanted to play on a joy pad. But Im having A little trouble setting it up. Can someone please give a step by step tutorial on how to set it up?

1. Open Mai0.
2. Go to Options.
3. Go to Controls.
4. Select the control you want to change with arrow keys.
5. Press enter.
6. Press the joypad button for it.
7. Repeat from step 4 for remaining buttons.
8. Turn 'use mouse' off.
9. Set aiming direction and portal buttons.
10. Play.
