Hey everyone! It’s been a month so it’s time for a short update.
Online multiplayer is nearly done, lots of great new features were added to Mari0: Special Edition and a release isn’t too far away now. Meanwhile, you can take a look at something that will also be in Mari0 SE.

Image
discuss please note that that is not a proper way to start a topic.

So maurice has updated the front page saying he's added racoon mario. (and that is one of the best friggen racoon mario sprites in smb I've ever seen.)

I want to know what everyones reaction to this is and show it to those to lazy to check the front page

I think this is pretty awsome because mari0 (and the original for that matter) could have used more power ups.

I'm with Pyro on wondering how the hats will work with it. I'm also interested in how it will work with the hud. In SMB3 Raccoon Mairo used the little "run meter" at the bottom of the screen to show your speed you needed before flight, as seen below:
Image
Right here, ^^^ above the score.

I wonder how that meter will be shown for Raccoon Mario, if at all.

I recon it works like the feather in smw when you reach full speed.

or if you have a hard time imagining.

I feel like (and wish of course) there will be a SMB3 mode. This will include the small stuff like
1. Fire-> Big -> Small
2. Tanooki, Hammer Bros, Frog Mario, etc.
3. Maybe even the ending gamble thingy?

Of course, I'm just daydreaming...

I think you're thinking of the wrong small stuff.

Well I'm up for a Mario game (even fan made) that includes recent Mario, Kirby, Rayman, and One Piece power ups and abilities.

For me, I'm just going to make the tail graphic separate; make player front and back sprites, and flying sprites.

RWLab's intro to the Image
[img$][/img$]

Now go here.

Press "Computer" and select your picture. It'll upload the file and show you a picture.
Image

Now right click the picture and press the option that says "Copy URL of the picture" or somewhat. I run a different language so it may vary.

Ctrl+V between the [img$][/img$] tags. So for example,
[img$]http://i.imgur.com/fakelink.png[/img$]

Then you have an image.

Sorry if I state obvious steps, but when I give instructions I'm supposed to assume that you know nothing (comes from chem classes). If you're still confused quote this post and figure it out from there...

there's more than 3 colours on that sprite.

Don't say things you don't understand.

EDIT: and there's a colour palette

Now now Renhoek, it's not true 8-bit but it looks nice. Don't be too harsh. It does need a little tweaking and recoloring for it to be true 8-bit, but as it is right now it doesn't look too bad.

That's what renhoek was complaining talking about. 8-bit sprites on the NES were limited to 3 colors and were limited to the color palette he posted.
(One of the only exceptions to this rule was how Capcom made Megaman, but they used 2 separate sprite layers or something to allow him to have 5 colors.)
To make it true 8-bit, you have to rework your leaf sprite to only use 3 colors and use that palette.

looks good but maybe you should add a hole to the top of it?

I'm thinking maurice is going to his own (or the original smb3) sprite though.

And all I'm asking; what's wrong with just using the basic non-eyed no hole Super Leaf? I prefer that design over the SM3DL one, and that's what I'm using for my own Mario clones.

but raccoon Mario is an unlockable feature, you don't have to use it. Plus map heights can restrict flying over the level. (I think)

You can not deny that kind of opportunity when it is handed to you. The game gets boring, but it's hard to resist.

Must be a personal play style. I can easily beat both SMB3 and SMW with the raccoon tail and cape without ever flying over the levels ever.
Meh, let's stop arguing while we're ahead though and agree to disagree.

I don't normally fly over levels, but it seems a little harder to get to full speed in SMB3 than in this. I will stop arguing now.
