I don't think there really are hackers/cheaters on Mario Kart, (aside from snakers in MKDS) maybe they just have a slow connection and the game has a troubled time keeping up.

So, any opinions on the return of Toad's Turnpike, Royal Raceway, or N64 Rainbow Road returning?

Edit: Aw dang, trailers still aren't working.
Ideas?

Mario Kart Wii would like a word with you. I couldn't count how many times I've encountered hackers there, just hitting everyone with stars, bullet bills, or blue shells BEFORE THE RACE EVEN STARTED.

Oh and the remade tracks are looking sexy, especially N64 Rainbow Road

I haven't actually been on MKW online all that much.
I've accumulated 5000 VR on MK7, though.
(You start out with 1000, and get about 18 per 1st place in a race.)

Edit:
Awww yeah, trailers are up!

Whats your favorite method of control? I honestly love to play mario kart wii with the wii wheel, it adds just a bit more challenge and accomplishment to beating a race (and I could say I beat 150cc starcup using the wii wheel)

I just cannot handle those motion controls.
Well, at least not 1st person MK7.

I would use a Wii U pro controller if I could for MK8, but otherwise I'll just go for the gamepad.
Multiplayer-wise, Wii U Pro controller.

I don't think hackers are going to be much of a problem,
I'm sure Nintendo will put in the report system they're using for the next smash bros in this game too.

I can handle the Wiimote just fine but MK7 in 1st person mode is just impossible.

1st person mode is only impossible due to the motion controls IMO. When you turn those off and just use the normal buttons then it looks fantastic. I still don't use it all that much just because default camera is just overall better but a nice switch now and then is nice.

inb4 everyone notices I've been saying "inb4" like constantly in the past 5 minutes and I don't really have a reason for it except no one will see this post for like the next 15 minutes because they're all "busy"
That being said, this is looking like the one game that makes me want a Wii U. I've always been a huge Mario Kart fan. I used to design my own tracks in my head and on paper when I was really young.

I did that to an extreme.
I glued glass to paper to mimic ice, and took a rainbow ribbon and stapled it to some more paper.

I even imagined underwater driving / flying when I was little.
(Not the karts transforming, but shaped like a submarine plane.)

I don't have a Wii U yet, might never.
Unless they have karts like in MK:DD, which they probably won't.

Double Dash is literally the only Mario Kart game to have those style of karts. They only way they'd be brought back is if they brought back the tag-team action from that game, which they aren't doing.
MK8 looks like it'll have the kart styles of MKWii, with maybe the customization of MK7. You know, stuff from their more recent titles.

I have a mixed opinion on DD.
While the 2-player mechanic was fun, it sucked to be the person in the back. It was kinda boring. Player 2 should have a view of the back and front, being able to defend wherever and whenever. Or go offensively. But it was also kinda boring to be the person in the front, where it was like a time trial with no control over items.
That being said, it allowed players at different skill levels to work together, where it was much easier to purely defend a kart, rather than swerve past bananas and cars, into pits, and so on.

Don't get me wrong, though, I want another DD. I just want it to be more interesting.
Let's all hope for one in 3 years when we see the 3DS's successor (Rumored to be called Fusion- Mario Kart Fusion would be a fitting title.)

People actually used that 2 person mechanic?
I just races with friends having their own cars when racing with friends

Also there were slight differences with thwomps or something in the time trial tracks compared with grand prix and I always wondered why but never got an answer because apparently my dad doesn't know everything

All hazards in Time Trials are set at their own pace, separate from player interaction. This is to provide a fair race for everyone. (aka How come I have to get hit by a stupid thwomp and he doesn't? Taking an alternate route is punishing?)

On Bowser's Castle time trial mode there's two more thwomps towards the beginning of the track in the castle and they aren't there in grand prix
Yes I remember their exact positions

Oh
uh
Generally, games decrease in graphical quality the more objects (and players) there are because it means extra rendering.
In the case of Grand Prix, it takes extra processing power to well, process all of the computers.
So in Time Trials, instead of 7 computers running around, there are 2 more thwomps.

I'm going to change the topic real quick:
So every day I host Mario Kart tournaments at my school, specifically at lunch.
This is the best way I've spent my lunches yet.
So basically, it's just the 6 of us battling it out in the best iteration of Balloon Battle, (where it was a survival) and on this specific day I turned teams on.
And on this specific round, my team got taken out immediately, leading to a 1 vs 3 battle.
Now, in MKDS Balloon Battle, you can indeed shoot your friends or whatever to screw the odds.

It was the most awesome Mario Kart experience I've ever had; I freaking won with hardly any balloons lost, too.
The most fun of it all was the red shells. They tried to throw them at me, and they turned around and hit the closest player- being another blue teammate.

Where the heck is the battle mode for Mario Kart 8?
Please let it be MKDS's (Or anything below that for that matter- Bomb-omb Blast form DD is also preferable)

Side note:
In addition to the classic controller I already owned, now have that Pro Controller U and Mayflash Gamecube adapter.
Mario Kart 64 Multiplayer!

Nintendo announced the last 3 characters in the Mario Kart 8 roster yesterday.
I just started laughing at how many people will rage.

Yes, this roster is final.
Unless DLC comes along. (Which I'm putting my money on.)

They also showed off a bit of Bowser's Castle and Rainbow Road, had N64 Yoshi Valley return, GCN Sherbet Land, and DS Wario Stadium.

Bowser's Castle:

Click spoiler for Raibow Road (Which isn't as mind-bending as I thought it would be, but it still looks really cool.)

It even occurs in first place sometimes.

You can already stop one in Wii if you have a mushroom.
You just speed up when it is coming, so that would be even better than using this as anti-blueshell, since you also get a speed boost.

Rarely do I avoid blue shells with mushrooms; the timing is down to the millisecond.

And I'm not complaining about how the blue shell was before; I liked it, and it made getting 1st place all that more challenging. It was also fun to race backwards in MK7 online as to avoid being first and therefore hit.

Bob how many times have you actually had a mushroom in first place and successfully been able to avoid a blue shell with it.
Besides odds are you can't do that in the new one.

I saw that before.
It's free DLC, so I'm probably going to ignore it either way.

It also makes me much more hopeful for DLC characters and tracks, as well as the real battle mode stages that probably will come.
(My opinion on battle mode is that they ran short on time, so they had to think of creative ways to go around designing courses- re-using previous racing courses.)

We should also have a more narrow tournament, as we're not just going to randomly all come on at the same hour suddenly.
Or you could just mention what hour to go in by and what the translation across all time zones is.
