Game idea. Do you like?

If it doesn't fit elsewhere, it should go here

SO i had an idea for a little 2d platformer where you control a character who can walk run and jump. and he needs to get to the end of the level without touching any acid rain. the acid rain pours from 1 side of the screen and stops when it touches a solid block. but the player can control where it rains from.
pressing up / w makes it rain upwards to the top from the bottom. and pressing down would make it rain from bottom to top same with left and right.

But to make it simpler... you need to get to the end of the level without touching the acid rain. only simple controls fro character movement. and you control with way the acid pours from up down left or right. So objects or enemies need acid rain or cant touch it. for example a platform that vanishes when touched by acid and reappears when it clears away.

What do you think

The concept seems like it would be interesting for a one level kinda gimmick but an entire game dedicated to "Press this button to make the kill zone change!" seems like a bad idea.
And I doubt you would be able to make many variations to keep the game interesting either.

well how about if it can come from all directions and you control it in a 360?
also it wouldnt be too boring, because he mentioned puzzle elements of the things that need the acid

There can be water acid baced puzzles
Ex:
Collect acid in container
Push container to a certain area
Break container and acid corrodes certain blocks

You can also have certain Containers that corrode over time etc. etc. etc.

It'd be interesting if you did it right.
Like renhoek, I'd get bored of this after a while, unless you had enough other elements mixed in, primarily because this isn't the kind of game that has great appeal to me.
It seems like a cool idea, though.

Also, do you code, jacko?

I agree with renhoek.
Would work for a flash game but anything more serious? Nah.

Don't you need expensive software to make flash games?

Well you can't do it in notepad and winrar like Love2d... However I'm sure you can find some environment with flash already installed like a school or university.

That's very impractical. I don't see why you couldn't make a simple love2d game out of this, though it does seem better at place within a browser.

In my opinion: The interface is just less quick.
With flash you can just draw a hud, level and character as separate movieclips, copy and paste some code from a tutorial and only have to think of how to do rain after.
With Love2d the process is more, make beta platforming game using physics engine adapted from code on the internet, use a graphics program to make some graphics like the tilesets, character and HUD, save, reference, draw, check to see how the games working, design a basic level, make rain physics.

This idea is quite a generic game concept to be honest.
A few levels from Rayman Legends came to mind.
It would be more fit for a flash game like stated before unless you add some gameplay mechanics that would make it more unique.
If you are really creative this could work out to become something, otherwise I can only see it becoming a puzzle platformer or a Super Meat Boy/VVVVVV clone with a twist.
I'd say sit on this idea for a while if you really like it and see where it takes you.

well this rose quick. but i don't code it was just an idea. and i think i could come up with some fun ideas to keep it fresh.
platforms that show / hide when rain is falling from curtain directions. platforms that move in a bit in the direction of the rain. even tanks hooked up to hoses so it will continue to pour out of the hose for a bit after the rain stops. things changing speed. also umbrella power ups. (temp protection) Level editors... multiplayer... Man vs acid or something for multiplayer... i think we could keep it fresh...

All of the above. Someone make this happen?

It needs more acid stuff, And add hazards that catch fire with acid???

maybe a fuse to a bomb that catches fire with acid
but can acid even do that

and with the actual mechanic i have an idea
im pretty sure that this is what you meant but i just feel the need to state this
it could be that when you pick a direction for the rain to fall, the rain that was already falling doesnt just disappear, but instead it stops making more rain fall in the old direction, and then makes it start raining from the other direction

i want to just say no but that would leave me off topic
so more ideas
a co-op would be cool
and also men vs acid (co-op mva)
maybe even men vs acid with puzzles
that would be very hard to do though
anyway i agree with drone, someone should make this a thing

I think a better idea would be modifiable gravity. It would still have the same "killzone" thing but it would also add more of a twist.
