Currently working on something like that with video game sprites. Also Gamecube stuff (when I have some side cash), in the event of an industry crash or similar - one of these days I'm getting an Emerald Blue controller.

Isn't it weird how a lot of people are preparing for some kind of disaster?

Pfft, I don't need to backup anything since once the apocolypse starts to reign down I will stand tall and be the hero that saves humanity.

I backed up every LotR Civ V workshop mod I could find yesterday.

Also I had an idea. There has been a little buzz about Spelunky in the past 2 days, (Nearly none, but hey.) so I was thinking of making a Spelunky high scores thread. Would anybody use that?

It disappointing me greatly when I went on and the online services were no longer up...

You know, they should seriously make another DIY game.
Or a WarioWare at least, they haven't made one since DIY

I made the "7 differences" game. Mostly to test skills. You can add custom images, custom hints, chances, times...
I don't care too much about it, so if someone wants to mod it, feel free. Credits still goes to me though.

Image

Just a mini game. To add new images:

Place the required files (below) on "%appdata%/LOVE/7 differences/images".
The first image must be named *whatever*-1.png (or .jpg)
The second (the different one) must be named *whatever*-2.png (or .jpg)
The third (the mask of the differences) must be named *whatever*-mask.png (or .jpg)
The text file with custom data must be named *whatever*-data.txt (or any other format)

These files must have the same name (in the *whatever* part).

The images MUST be 400x300 pixels.
The mask image has to have 7 "areas" of specific pixel colors. That's how the game "reads" where the differences are when you click them. They must be red, yellow, green, cyan, blue, magenta and black. The order doesn't matter.
The data text file is optional. If you want to add, here's how you should write it:

Code: Select all

time=[time in seconds]
hints=[hints]
chances=[chances]
difficulty=[easy/medium/hard]
Of course, you don't need to set up all these data. You can set only one or two.

Made this game just to test my skills. There are just three images, but you can add more or ask me (I'll not work on this anymore, so don't expect too much).

Crash reports are useless. I tested it a lot, and the only errors you will get is by placing data wrong or wrong images...
Here it is...

Updated my "7 differences" game. Not big changes. But I made it fully, entirely compatible with both LÖVE 0.8.0 and LÖVE 0.9.0. You can even run the game twice, one on each version. Wasn't hard at all, though.

Since I made it to train skills (coding skills, not graphic skills. I made the "graphics" on a rush, and therefore they suck), do you guys have any feedback? Is everything working fine?

Also, I think I'll update my mod to work with both versions too. That'll not take too long.

Should I make some "sort" of converter to .love games to run on both versions? I found a way to do that without crashes (a problem that a lot of people reported already), using a small coding "trick" that some people haven't associated to this yet (or have and I'm sounding really stupid here). It is very, very easy to me... (The converter, obviously, would run on both).

I think you should allow the windows to be resizable.(Even if the pictures will be blurry and pixelated). And also, you should support others resolutions.

SMW Mario is turning out nicely, but I need some help to position Mario's hands for when he holds the portal gun.
spacerImage
My two attempts to do it are on the image, but that's all I've done with the gun so far since (as you can see) I got stuck pretty quickly.
Any feedback is welcome but the hands are what I need help with so that would be more helpful.
Here's a link to the original portal gun sprite.
EDIT: Changed the outline of the gun to the shade of grey used on the 8-bit version of it.

Yes.
Here's the full story, since it got deleted.
Either I'm going to post it on creepypasta.com next, or make a new one.
I hope this will help my relationship problems.
Slam.jam

It was a normal morning slam in June, and I was out looking for a garage slam where I could purchase rare and unusual remixes of Space Jam, as I am a huge slam and am ready for the jam. After slamming for 6 hours in my minislam I jammed upon a fine garage slam, bustling with jams ready for the space jam. I slammed into the owner's yard, who I could only assu-lam to be the big jam, a faint old slam bringing in the jam at the cash regislam. The morning slam jammed into my eyes, its slam slamming me on the ground. As I got up, I realislammed my wallet had been taken away from this jam! I could slam a jam in a slam-colored slam coat with a jam hat walking quickly, as though he was in a jam. I slammed over and slammed him in the face. "Hey, you, whatcha gonna do?" I slammed at him angrily. "Get away from me, you little jam, or I'll slam you back to your mother's jam!" He replied, very slamistically. He slammed me back, and jammed my windowslams. "Hey, that's my jam!" I said, as I followed him to the curb at the end of the coldeslam. "Slam all you want," he said, "Your money is belongs to this jam." He pointed to his slam. He pulled out my credit jam, slamming it's contents. "LeBron Johnson? Hah, you're one pathetic jam. I can't wait to slam you into oblivislam." "You wanna slam, punk?" I said, angrislam. "Sure, but I'll be the slammed owner of this wallet if I beat you.."

I knew what he was slamming on about.
Basketball.

I was slammed upside the head, I slammed out, and woke up in a cold dark court. "Mother of Jam.." I had to get my sorry slam together off the floor when I saw them.

The whole home team.
He was "7'5 tall, the grand slam of all that is slam, Charles "Slam" Barkley. I was slammed.
Choirs of heavenly Space Jam sung as he spoke his slam.

"THE MORNING SLAM, GETTIN READY FOR THE JAM, THE MORNING SLAM, ARE YOU READY FOR THE SLAM?"

I wasn't ready.
I cried like it was 1580-slam.
All I could manage to utter was a bit of slam until I stood up, wary with fatijam.

Charles slammed over to where I was slamming with a big grin with the slam on it.

"It's time for the slam!
Get ready to get jammed!"

The last thing I heard was the words
"You're slammed…" slamming from Charles' jam. I realislammed with one dying slam, this wasn't Charles! This was that slam who took my wallet! Anyslam, anyslam at all, help..
Goodbye.

4chan is an image board used by millions of people fromm all around the world each day, and everyday hundreds of threads are made, more replies a thread recieve, more it'll stay on the first pages...if it doesnt recieve enough replies, it will quickly reach page 15, and then it will get deleted automatically(there's a maximum of roughly 240 threads). Also, theres a post(and image) limit each thread can recieve, and after said limit is reached it won't be bumped anymore, no matter how many replies it gets, so it'll fade to page 15 anyway.
Plus, there's some mods...if they dont like a thread, or think it's stupid, or they had a bad day and want to be assholes, they'll delete the thread...they need no reasons or excuses to do that.

You don't believe that site is moderated, or you don't believe mods delete threads/posts and ban people for trivial reasons?

Old quoting, off topic, because I didn't see it before:

It is very, very easy to me... (The converter, obviously, would run on both).
I'm curious. What sort of trick?
Actually, there are 2 tricks.
Spoiler because of codes. They'd spam the Chat Room:
The first one is in "conf.lua", where the game checks for it's version. It's not NECESSARY to make it work, but it stops showing that version text...

Code: Select all

function love.conf(t)
    t.version = "0.8.0"
    if love._version == "0.9.0" then
        t.version = "0.9.0"
    end
end
The second one, which requires that you do a little bit more of work, is checking the "renamed" functions:

Code: Select all

if love.graphics.setDefaultImageFilter then --for LÖVE 0.8.0
    love.graphics.setDefaultImageFilter("nearest", "nearest")
elseif love.graphics.setDefaultFilter then --for LÖVE 0.9.0
    love.graphics.setDefaultFilter("nearest", "nearest")
end
You have to do it to every function that got renamed, like "love.filesystem.enumerate", "love.graphics.drawq" and so on. To make it easier, you can "compact" them by replacing, for example, "love.graphics.drawq" by "drawq", and add this to your game:

Code: Select all

function drawq( ... )
    if love.graphics.drawq then --for LÖVE 0.8.0
        love.graphics.drawq( ... )
    else --for LÖVE 0.9.0
        love.graphics.draw( ... )
    end
end
This way you can replace every renamed function without having to do the "if - else" checking everytime. Oh, and remember: functions that return things have to have the "return" there too:

Code: Select all

function enumerate( ... )
    if love.filesystem.enumerate then --for LÖVE 0.8.0
        return love.filesystem.enumerate( ... )
    elseif love.filesystem.getDirectoryItems then --for LÖVE 0.9.0
        return love.filesystem.getDirectoryItems( ... )
    end
end
Automatik wrote: I think you should allow the windows to be resizable.(Even if the pictures will be blurry and pixelated). And also, you should support others resolutions.
I can't run LÖVE 0.9.0 so well on my computer. I tested it on 0.9.0 to see if I was going to get any error, but it was very laggy to me. Also, I may not work on it anymore. It was more of a test than anything, but thanks for the suggestions!

Actually... It doesn't seems to be difficult at all. Well, new update! Now with custom image sizes! (I still recommend to use 400x300 pixels images):

Last Update!
No resizable window, though...

Well, thanks for the feedback, Automatik!

Slight problem - it'll lag a fair bit more.
Also you can't do all of 0.9.0's fancy window stuff.

Exactly. What I did there was just allowing a game FROM 0.8.0 to work ON 0.9.0. It'd be awesome if we could do the opposite...
Also, I didn't understand your first sentence. Are you saying that it is ACTUALLY more laggy now or that it WOULD be more laggy (with resizing window, I guess)?

I was saying any game you do your magic trick on to make it work on both version, will lag a lot more than it would if it was just made for one version.
And it's not possible to do everything 0.9.0 can do in 0.8.0, if it was then no-one would have bothered making 0.9.0 in the first place.

        return love.filesystem.getDirectoryItems( ... )
    end
end
I have a better solution:
-No t.version (That way it will never display the message)
Put these at the beginning of main.lua:
-love.graphics.drawq = love.graphics.draw (That's actually what Maurice did for mari0 SE)
-love.filesystem.enumerate = love.filesystem.enumerate or love.filesystem.getDirectoryItems
-love.graphics.setDefaultFilter = love.graphics.setDefaultFilter or love.graphics.setDefaultImageFilter
That way, it don't "lag" at all(Even the function solution shoudn't introduce lag).

no but it will still lag more than usual because you're doing more code for the same effect
granted it won't have a noticeable effect on the framerate for a simple game but if you're doing anything intensive this will worsen your problems
