Was just a small update, made the outline's colored and stuff. Stare at it until I think of a good category/theme for round 2.
Personally, I think the old one with black outline and darker colors is better..

Yay! I won something! Congratulations to the second and third place winners as well as all who entered. I really enjoyed looking at some of these entries. I can't wait to see the entries in the next contest. I appreciate Rokit Boy's generosity in providing the prize for the winner. And now for some rejected titles:
1. Hitler's Frog from Mars
2. Cybernetic Yak: Special Edition
3. Jackie Chan's Sex Simulator

Well, I cannot think of any 2nd and 3rd prize. Obviously Steam is what everybody has here, but I don't haz any more games to gift.

Congratulations Pyrosaur, your little dinosaur rules!
And Rokit, I suggest you'd keep the prizes for the next round winner or something.

I wonder what the new rounds will bring.

I think I have a good idea for the next round, but I'd like to hear some suggestions as I don't know if it will go well. Gotta test it out first myself. Feel free to suggest themes/ideas guys.

I think we should find ideas for the next round first. Why not a flash animation, or a short gif?

I was thinking that we all do the same title, but one that can be interpreted in several ways. It could either rolled by the generator or made up by anyone here.
You could also go with a fixed subject. Or even explain a game and make people create the title and title screen for it.

Regardless of what method you might use, I'm in!

I had an idea where I post 3 screenshots of already made games, like Mario or Kirby, and the contest would be to make a new title screen for that game. I think it'd be interesting but dunno if others would think so. I also like Jorichi's idea, so right now the theme is between these two ideas because I have no other ideas for themes in mind. Which one would you guys rather go with?

Okay, before I set up the next round, one final question.
Would you rather me make a new thread for Round 2 or just use this one and link to the round 2 rules in the OP? Once I know which way's preferred, I can start round 2.

same thread. making this thread was risky enough. how about idiot posts until he gets to the next page, puts the rules there, and in the FIRST post, puts the page number for that contest each time?

Spriting Contest Round 2

Welp, you guys liked the first round enough that you wanted another one so here we go!
Same idea for this round, make a title screen for a video game. However, instead of rolling your own names, you have to pick from 3 names I provide. They are:
  • 1) World City Wars
    2) Fancy Penguin in Crazyland
    3) Lair of the Night Girl
Also, this time around, I'm restricting you to a certain color palette: The NES palette. You can use as many colors as you want, but you only can use the colors that the NES was able to use. Here is the palette for anyone needing it.
Title screen submissions must be 240x160 px or smaller as well, so remember that too.

Deadline this time is Nov. 10, so you have a good week to make your entries.

Judging this time will be handled by 3 judges. Myself and 2 others. However, I would like 3 people to apply anyway, 2 for judging and 1 for backup. The backup judge will be for in case I want to make an entry myself and enter this round, so they would replace me. Judging categories are the same as last round as well, though "Color Use" will become "Palette Use" and be based upon if the NES palette was used and how effective was it used.

Make sure to have fun with it as well, and good luck!

Lots of people going for judging... I hope others are still gonna submit...

Well, here's mine.
I picked Lair of the Night Girl:
Image
Description:
"Ashley has always been a party girl, dancing deep into the night. Her night life caused her to apply for nighttime jobs. She quickly ended up as a junior security officer. After several nights on the shift she found a flashlight in her mentor's locker, but it looked different from all the others. As curious as she was she used it and found out that this flashlight showed things that weren't normally there. Different passages, monsters, various items and even entire worlds.
She found an entrance to a lair that very same day. She went in, but couldn't find her way out, it was dark, cold and humid. Luckily she took her regular flashlight with her as well.
Suddenly she heard her name being called, in her own voice... deep from within the lair..."

Update:

The color palette makes it a real challenge, good job Idiot9.0. I like this challenge!

WELL DUCK YOU GUYS I MADE ONE.
Bonus: Try to find the ONE pixel that didn't use the pallete!
Image
Fancy Penguin In Crazyland!
"Fancy Penguin was living a normal day when The Evil Polar Bear King sabotaged his hometown, Cloud Above Antarctica, and drove him off the sky. To Fancy Penguin's surprise, he lands on an island known as Crazyland, land of crazy, next to an abandoned but functional spaceship. He knows that he needs the five Crazy Stars to obtain the power needed to defeat The Evil Polar Bear King, so he starts off his crazy journey in Crazyland.
*edit: due to 404 i uploaded it to imgur

Hours before the world's superpowers were destroyed in a giant nuclear explosion, a little girl manages to find a disused WWII nuclear bunker to protect herself. Little does she know that the bunker also contained enough weapons and ammunition to stock a small army. 3 years later (yeah the bunker was also stocked with 3 years of food that hasn't gone off yet), the girl emerges to help rebuild society to it's former glory, armed with teeth with century old weapons.

Also here's two other versions for anyone who wants to see them:

Original Game Boy Version:

4 colour Version:

EDIT: Changed the sunset on all of the images so they now have a darkness gradient
