Oh right i almost forget to give this advice. Whenever you make a person in shock remember that:
-If the person is shocked by something they can see, they will directly stare at it.
-If the person is shocked by something they realised, they will deeply stare at nothing (just like you did on that drawing).
So, you should have made the eyes look directly into the end of the device, and in shock, also less is more, don't him cry a lot, just one tear is enough.
But that's just from my knowledge, which is not much, i hope it helps :)
