From the creator of A0zora and the Mari0 SJB Mod comes an expansion of Not Pac-Man that will have you on your ankles till the day you succeed.
I'm proud to present, Not Pac-Man x8! Now featuring the four forgotten ghosts, Sue, Funky, Kinky, and Spunky, joining the original ghostly quartet!
Can't defeat the game with so many ghouls running rampant? Thanks to fellow forum member Qcode, you can now play Not Pac-Man x8+8, a special version that adds an additional four Power Pellets to the maze.
Get it here, and happy chomping!
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/101251006/Not% ... n%20x8.zip Now Includes both Not Pac-Man x8 and Not Pac-Man x8+8.
You need LOVE (0.8.0) to run this mod.
Credit goes to BobTheLawyer for constructing the base of the mod which I later improved it from, and Automatik for porting the original to Love 0.8.0.
==RECORDS==
RabidJellyfish: 34.2 (x8+8)
Bonko: 48.7 seconds (x8+8)
BobTheLawyer: 66.8 seconds (x8+8)

This is a nice challenge to play, and the new graphics are nice too. The dying noise is sort of annoying to me, though
Another thing, maybe add more power pellet things to help with the 4-5 new ghosts?

I like it, a good way to counter the number of new ghosts. Though I don't like the one that's placed on the center of the top, as it's not symmetrical, and I altered the position of the two new pellets that were added to the S/Z tunnels so they're symmetrical with the new Power Pellets on the middle S/Z tunnels.Qcode wrote:Here's a version with 9 power pellets (put in random places that I thought looked good)

There's 4 on the bottom half and 5 on top.
Here's the result, which includes the small update to the visuals that I forgot previously.

I'll see if I can create a personalized version that replaces the Death sound effect with something else.TripleXero wrote:This is a nice challenge to play, and the new graphics are nice too. The dying noise is sort of annoying to me, though.

Are those ghosts actually from a real game, if so, what?
And sorta off topic, but wondering if you know since I'm not good with coding. Do you know how the level's boundaries work? Are those 32 (I think it was 32) lines of code coordinates to create rectangles that Pacman and the ghosts colide with?

Yes, they all are canon ghosts to the Pac-Man series.TripleXero wrote:Are those ghosts actually from a real game, if so, what?
Sue (Purple) appeared in Ms. Pac-Man as Clyde's replacement, then made appearances in Pac-Land and Pac-Mania as the fifth purple ghost. She was even one of the main villains of the Pac-Man cartoon series.
Funky (Green) from Pac-Mania is a ghost that sports jumping abilities. However I cloaked him in dark green so he matches the sixth ghost of the very unknown Champ Pac-Em.
Kinky (Yellow) is from Pac-Man Arrangement. Not the 2005 one that is now dubbed "Pac-Man Remix". Kinky had the ability to merge with the four other ghosts, giving them powers for the remainder of the level. Eating a powered-up Ghost would give double the value of points. Here he doesn't wear glasses.
Spunky (Grey) is from Pac-Mania, and like Funky, he has the ability to jump.

That was fun! Just got 244 pellets in 66.8 seconds (using the more super pellets version).

You could... I want to see high scores for the points version I released, but only about four people downloaded that.

Only if you find it necessary. We'd need tables for best times with three, four, and eight ghosts (the later with 4 and 8 power pellets), and best score with four ghosts.Bonko wrote:Should I add a Not Pacman x8 section in the highscores thread?
I'll consider making image banners for each individual variant, so it can give off sone appeal.

I suggest just adding them here as it makes for sense.Superjustinbros wrote:Only if you find it necessary. But, your decision, not mine.

Updated the download in the first post, Now x8 and x8+8 are both included in the standard download.
I should mention that with x8, the added difficulty and lack of extra power pellets can make it harder to score a time that's very possible with vanilla Not Pac-Man. With x8+8, I was able to beat my previous time set with Bob's 4-Ghost mod.
Oh, and I'd like RabidJellyfish (or anyone else that can score lower than 40.0 seconds in vanilla NPM) to murder x8+8 in a speed run video. Of course with how Funky, Kinky, and (to a lesser extent) Spunky spawn in the long right vertical channel, a new strategy would have to be employed.

I got bored of the original game so I played your mod(s).
So that's 35.4 seconds in the x8 mod and 34.2 in the x8+8 mod.
The strategy ended up being the same because the map is the same, except flipped because the ghosts spawn on the side I usually start on. And the execution isn't perfect but it's 2 in the morning and I should get sleep instead of playing this game.

Thank you very much. I'll get your times onto the high score table soon.RabidJellyfish wrote:I got bored of the original game so I played your mod(s).

As for the comment on the camera being fixed on Pac-Man as opposed to the center of the maze, I'd love to be able to add a setting that allows you to swap between each camera mode in game without having to run a separate mod.
Sleep is always important.
