Welcome to 1.6 Hat loader,

Download Here: (Windows, OSX, Source)

Until I write a howto, to add new animated hats open the Source with 7zip or similar and look at hats folder. Add a new folder in Appdata/Mari0/hats/ with settings.txt with the information for your hatpack.

Changelog:

Build 005 (April 10, 2012)
  • Added new settings option "overrideframetime" for animated hats.
Build 004 (April 07, 2012)
  • Added modifier "behindplayer" to draw the hat behind the player.
Build 003 (March 24, 2012)
  • Hats now load from folders similar to mappacks.
  • Animated hats
  • Stole This.
  • Hat modifiers, hidesmallplayer,hidebigplayer,hidesmallgun,hidebiggun
  • Ability to change hat ingame.
  • Half-assed menu, options, and pausemenu scrolling and selecting.
Todo: finish updating this post.

It's a really nice mod and I almost feel sorry for releasing 1.4 right after you uploaded this.
I'll think about including this for the next update, great job.

Updated to 1.4, added a fix for crashing if your saved hat index was greater than the number of hats. Also packed a windows release for the lazy.

This is great, thanks! It kept giving me an error in 7-zip when I tried to add my hats manually through the exe file, so this is a life-saver.

I hate this mod because there's a million idiots that install a hat, select it, then delete it and wonder why their game doesn't start.
Not really your fault, good job on the mod.

you cant add/remove files inside .exe files
the exe just contains the source code and LOVE, just extract it somewhere then rezip it as a .love file to mod it

I made an animated snow cloud hat, but since it took barely any effort and it's broken until he fixes the cloud axis, I'm not releasing it. All I did was replace the rain with "+"s.

I just didn't set the offset for the bighat, but I made a new one and set it with it, try this release. http://l4fd.info/mari0_1.6_hatloader_test005.love . lightning bitches. also I got a idea for how to make a mac release but not sure. you can slow down the snow by changing the 6th and the 13th (bighat) var to a higher number.

Why would this not work for Macs as it is? It uses just a .love file and the saves folder.

To open a .love file, just download love 0.8.0 for Mac.

Maurice actually added in a new way of adding hats. You have to put your hat sprite and offsets in a folder along with a complex game that you made in love2d, and if Maurice likes the game you made him, you can use the hat in your game. If he dislikes the game, your computer will catch fire. I know this because he sent me a beta. I no longer have that computer, sadly.

Download the newest version 1.6 hat loader and I must say you did a really good job! I wonder if Maurice's version will live up to this. Unfortunately, I noticed one bug. The default stabyourself Mario hat (the red one) is white during the preview. If you access it from the options menu it appears red though.

Yessir! You can find the download link in our gallery.

Also, canI, I noticed you added a few things besides the hat loader to your mari0.
1. You made it so that clicking on the screen is like pressing enter.
2. When adding players the characters are more separated more than usual.
3. You surrounded the white text with black.

These are awesome additions, but unfortunately I always accidentally start the game by clicking back on the screen. -_-

You first need to download Love 0.8.0 from http://www.love2d.org/builds
Then run the Hat Loader source via Love.

Hey canI, you should make it so we could edit the time of the individual sprites for the animated hats. We're trying to make a hat that just stays the same, but with an awesome intro. It has 11 sprites so 1.1 seconds. We want the 11th sprite to last about 1000 seconds.

Don't you think 1000 is a little bit overboard? Or is 1000 sec faster than it seems in the game?

Ooh, you're right. 100ish seconds would be almost 300 real seconds.

@Zlmpery That wouldn't be that hard todo code wise, how would you suggest I format it in settings.txt?

Anyway, I can't do much right now anyway I moved into a new house recently and haven't setup my dev PC yet.

Hmm. You could make it so that the option is last frame only or you could make it so every frame is editable. You could:

--smallx,smally,smallheight,smalltotalframes,smallspacing,smallcyclerate,lastframerate,smallgraphic,bigx,bigy,bigheight,bigtotalframes,bigspacing,bigcyclerate,biggraphic
newanimhat=3,-5,10,8,16,0.2,300,awesomeanim,-3,0,10,8,16,0.2,awesomeanim

If you want to make it so that every frame is editable, it would be a little more complicated. You could make it like: "0.2,0.2,0.2,0.1,5,0.1" But I'm not sure how easy it is to make the hatloader realize how many frame-rates there will be using the "smalltotalframes" and "bigtotalframes."

What if I just added a modifier that only allowed the animation to play once until next level or death, would that do ya?

Wow, yeah that would really help. For the individual sprites we could just put two or three of the same sprites.
