I felt like going into the .love file and remove all the extra tiles that were added onto the Portal tileset, for compatibility reasons.

I plan to update this a lot within the next week. Also, in the next update I post, I'll have the tiles fixed, too. Well better than before, I'm replacing the Portal tiles instead of adding to them and offsetting the custom tiles

Have you figured out how to add in the rest of the SMBS/SMBDX stuff?

Right now I'm just bringing over the options menu from my Game Grumps mod and changing it to fit this game, but once I get that done I'll get back to gameplay. I want to add the hammer powerup, barrels, and icicles as soon as possible. I don't know exactly how, but then again I haven't tried yet

Maybe you can seek some advice from alesan99? He did add some of the SMBS entities into his entities mod (ignoring sprite/color limitations and 100% accuracy to the original games).TripleXero wrote:Right now I'm just bringing over the options menu from my Game Grumps mod and changing it to fit this game, but once I get that done I'll get back to gameplay. Super Mario Bros. + v3.00
This update is mostly just menus and fixes to the menus, but has some gameplay fixes as well. Here's a list of the changes:
If you see anything wrong, please tell me and I'll try to fix it! I had it crash on me when I moved the save files to "smbplus", and I don't know what exactly fixed it, so if that happens to anyone, I'll try to look into it more
This update is mostly just menus and fixes to the menus, but has some gameplay fixes as well. Here's a list of the changes:
Code: Select all
New options menu design
Choice of Mario or Luigi physics
Redesigned hat/color picker (brought over from Game Grumps mod)
Player at bottom of options menu is the player being edited
Option to fix Portal tiles (this breaks mappacks with the additional SMB tiles. Also, for some reason, it keeps the original collisions from the SMB tiles, which is a problem)
Goomba Attack is replaced with Hell Mode, from another mod I made last year
Huge Mario is replaced with Destructive Mario, where he has all the same power, just in his small state
Additions to the skinning options from SMB - SMB2 - SMBS (still not fully finished)
Fixes to save file screen
Not sure if I said this before, but it has been fixed for a while now: Player Collision doesn't break the game if hit after the flag anymore
Screen doesn't lock up anymore when playing with 2 or more players
Broken pipe tiles should be fixed
Save files have their own folder now. "smbplus" instead of sharing the "mari0"
Changing the amounts of players is only possible on the first selection of the main menu now, not anywhere. Can also be changed with Shift
More? I don't know, might have forgot

For some people who are saying stuff about this mod like: "why can't you just buy the game yourself", They have the + there for a reason, some people want to use a map editor and 4 player co-op without a portal gun.

I found a bug, when i had star power and ran over the red plant with it the game crashed. then when I tried to restart mario, it crashed instantly. it is doing that for all my other Mari0 mods now, that bothers me a lil' bit.
No other mod works because the mappack has an entity (red plant) that other mods do not have, and since the game doesn't know what to do it crashes. Open Super Mario Bros. + and use the editor to remove the red plant from the mappack.

Thats the prob, when i try to open it it crashes. So i had to re-install them.
Edit: What is the files name of what is keeping me from going back? Because i want to be able to turn back when i want to.

I can fix the red plant star thing, I think the other plants might suffer from that, too. I remember the atom thing did the same thing, but I can't remember if that's fixed. I have no clue why it would crash opening SMB+ with the read plant, though. If it happens again, screenshot the error screen

Press the prt sc (print screen) key on your keyboard, go to imgur.com, hit the upload button, and there should be an option to paste an image into it. Then post the URL here

Don't forget that SMB1 editors are usually really complex and limited.slizzel2004 wrote:For some people who are saying stuff about this mod like: "why can't you just buy the game yourself", They have the + there for a reason, some people want to use a map editor and 4 player co-op without a portal gun.

I was playing around with this and I binded every player's key to the P1's keys.
And it was a big mess. :D
Sorry for bump.
Also, in case people didn't play SMB Deluxe, here's a picture of what the saving pipes, I mean, saving zone looked like:

Hello! First off, I love this mod...the controls feel way more consistent with the original NES game. But I do have a question...
I tried to add the stompable squids from Alesan99's entities mod into SMB+, and it's working almost perfecty. But no matter what I try to do with the code for the game I can't seem to stomp the squid unless I land directly on top of it (unlike the flying koopas that you can "stomp" even if you fall a little too soon). Is there anything I can edit to make this work? I tried messing around with the mario.lua file with no luck...
EDIT: Also maybe I'm missing something here but is there a way to turn off Hard Mode when testing my levels in the editor?

I'm sorry, but I don't know what you are trying to tell me
This mod is supposed to recreate Super Mario Bros., and you can't go back in SMB.

I believe if you play with 2 or more people, the screen doesn't lock, I can't remember if I added that or not

You should make it lock in multiplayer!
That way you can't get lost in the back!

We don't understand what this means. Giving us examples won't help.agg1401 wrote:As in Mari0.

Let me just post here so I can end this confusion.
In SMB1 you couldn't go back because the scrolling engine of the original 1985 game wasn't powerful enough to allow scrolling in more than one direction. and since SMB+ is meant to be as authentic as possible to the original, it keeps this limitation. Very much any other modern remake of SMB1 (All-Stars and SMBDX) keep this one-way scrolling for the same reason.

I think the most confusing thing was his post.

It roughly translates to "I used Google Translate without even remotely trying to make myself clear."Automatik wrote:I think the most confusing thing was his post. What does this mean?agg1401 wrote:Not that the man, make some time to go back a not bad.

There's something wrong with the newest version for the game for me.TripleXero wrote:Super Mario Bros. + v3.00

When I jump in the game (I'm using a Game pad, bound jump button to A), the game crashes. With the following error:
game.lua:229: attempt to index field '?' (a nil value)
Traceback
game.lua:229: in function 'game_update'
main.lua:350: in function 'update'
[C]: in function 'xpcall'
Can you fix this? Otherwise the game is mostly unplayable.
*EDIT: Jumping in the map editor gives this:
game.lua:283: attempt to compare number with nil
Traceback
game.lua:283: in function 'game_update'
main.lua:350: in function 'update'
[C]: in function 'xpcall'
