I'm just wondering if its possible to add parallax foregrounds in Mari0. I'm not even sure if thats what you call it but I'm wondering if we could add that so it would look like this:

Image

it will also block Mario when he is behind the foreground area...

===========

This mod was originally a request from me. Lexsym made it possible to add custom foreground in Mari0, so all credits go to Lexsym and not me.

Just scroll down until you see the download links.

That's actually a pretty neat idea.

I cannot believe that this idea didn't cross my mind, and I was playing SMW all day. But wouldn't it be better if instead of a light that follows you, it would either be a flashlight or a lantern/lamp/whatever it is called that you can grab like cubes.

I've always wanted custom foregrounds ever since the new custom backgrounds feature. I'm surprised they haven't added this already

2nd good suggestion I've seen on this website (it's grates not something like pokemon because that's just stupid)

plus it wouldn't even need another button it'd just work with the custom background :D

I don't think parallax means what you think it means.

I don't know, the only person that even used the word "parallax" in this thread?

Parallax is referring to a layer scrolling at a different rate to the main collision layer. What this guy wants is a light circle around the player which is really a bad mechanic but what do I know.

Thats what Im really asking for! Ty xPi. :)

Uh yea, ignore the other crap I posted. I was just stating that I wanted something like the "light" thing around Mario but custom foregrounds will do for now. x.x

You could make the light thing with a custom foreground.

Well, not the light circle that follows Mario, or the big swinging light thing. Do explain.

This is what I will do:

edit:

Im pretty sure that the circle thing will follow mario if I play with the scroll factor.

Actually, never mind. That would only work if Mario was always in the center of the screen.

Alright, I'm gonna take down the video on the first post because its confusing a few people in here.

Now, is it possible to add custom parallax foreground (let me put a bold font on that keyword ) in Mari0? If yes, then I'll be happy if someone can implement it as a mod or whatever. We might also need another scroll factor for the foreground, so yeah... I hope that its not too much to ask.

Answers that I'm looking for:
Yes, its possible. We just need someone to do it and it might take a long time.
No, its impossible. Go stabyourself.

:)

edit:

oh and refer to xPi's video. See those stalagmites?

Yes, it's possible and it's (probably) really easy to add. However if you want to stab yourself anyway, I won't stop you.

It is possible, and probably not even that hard to implement. It would just work the same way as the parallax backgrounds, but it would overlap rather than be behind the game.

Thank you Pyr0saur!

All we need now is someone who can (and willing) do it. :)

Am I the only one who doesn't understand what you're trying to do?
You want a parallax FOREGROUND? Well it's relative, so everything would have parallax...kind of..I guess

Could you explain a little bit to me? Maybe you could add the backgrounds (but they're really foregrounds?) somehow and just divide the normal speed by /1.1, 1.5, 2, or however much you want to get it to move slower. Unless that's not what you meant at all.

I threw this together, hopefully it's what you wanted. It works exactly like the way the backgrounds do, just as a foreground.

foregrounds_mari0v1.0 (.love)
foregrounds_mari0v1.0 (compiled .rar)
foregrounds_mari0v1.0 (compiled .zip)

I tried the mod with this map and also with other foregrounds maps(made a couple quickly), they dont wrok(all i see is white except for tiles), then I tried both the mod and the maps on my other pc(a desktop one) and everything works fine. Apparently there's something that makes this mod not work on my netbook...weird, backgrounds and foregrounds are just png images, why shouldnt they show?
