I was just wanting to throw some ideas out there.
  • angel halo
    Devil horns
    Rainbow hippie wig
    Square head
    Yoshi head
    Dog/wolf head
    Bender antenna
    Starman head
    X-ray specs
    Night vison goggles
    Ice cube
    Bunny ears
    Giant eyeball - "evil eye"
Animated ideas:
  • Navi (that annoying fairy that circles aboue you in Zelda: Ocarina of Time)
    fire
Scrolling text on a single line

I found the perfect Navi image, but it's too big. I've been trying to resize it through GIMP, but it won't open.

http://www.mediafire.com/?2cjrkgbuwf4226j

I saw it on Photobucket, and it IS animated.

Unless I'm mistaken, gimp can't edit animated images. Could you post the photobucket link? I could save each individual frame.

Edit: Never mind, I googled it.

How many frames is that?

Well, I found an online editor to resize (it failed me--damn no specific pixel size). It said 8 i believe.

No, next to Mario. I don't mind either side, but the left side of him.

To be honest, animated hats are pretty complicated. I learned to make animated hats by exploring the codes inside of canI's hatloader.

Here are a few tips:
Try copying and pasting an already animated hat and replace it step-by-step. It is the easiest method.
The awesomeface hat has a little description of what each value does to the hat.
Each sprite has to be directly next to eachother in a transparent image. (If a sprite loses a pixel of width, adjust the seperations accordingly.)
Place the small hat image, the big hat image, and the settings.txt in a folder inside of the hats folder inside of Hatloader.love.

OK. Settings.txt contains what?

Unless you're gonna be annoyed.. Meh. I don't feel like peeling apart Navi.

Don't forget to give mario an animated link hat (wind animation) with Navi next to it :D (so he's not hatless)

Seth, you can stack hats, so having just Navi would better.

But can you stack animated hats? and will they get out of sync if they have a different number of frames.

If it works fine, then it doesn't matter i guess.

Stacking animated hats works fine in everything but the hat loader menu itself. The main menu, options, and ingame all properly render. I just never took the time to properly calc yadd for the hatloadermenu.

mario/luigi/fire hat

basically it's the regular characters hats except the stay the same colour as the original Mario bros (mario - red, luigi - green, fire - whit)
it could open up more design choices for the player.

That's doable in options you know. I did that. Unless you mean the non-NES versions.

I meant one that stayed one colour like red, green, white
that way you're overalls would change colour and you could keep your hat colour.
