Simply uncomment the code in mario.lua's init function that pertains to the character that you want.
If you're going to ask for help, please be more descriptive with what it is you intend to accomplish.
If you just want to change what the player looks like, look around in the graphics folder for the appropriate images.
If you want to program mario to behave like kirby you're going to at least need to modify mario.lua.

i was wondering something similar to the question, but i want to replace mario with either another character sprite or create my own sprite. how would i go about ripping character sprites and replace mario with either link, samus, and ect. i also want to learn how to create my own character sprite as i want to mod Mari0 to become Special Mariko Broken(Anime spoof of Super Mario Bro.s with Office lady as its main character.) Special Mariko Broken is similar to Super Mario Bro.s but wacky and interesting, but i think its some pointless to add all the features the anime has shown because its wrong to add pointless commands.
