well this proof of concept mappack might answer that question.
it still features things that made smb2, smb2, but it also features question blocks and other more traditional Mario stuff.
This is just a proof of concept and not planned to be a full mappack but
anyone is free to use this mappack and add as much stuff as they want (Credit is also optional)
