Retrush is a retro speedrunning mappack! You have just a few precious seconds to get from checkpoint to checkpoint... but, you have infinite lives - so get moving, and go blaze a fearless trail!

All 16 levels can be conquered with pure platforming skill, but the portal gun opens up opportunities for shortcuts and challenge runs! Either way, the stages feature a mix of SMB and Portal elements, so you should be familiar with how gels and faithplates work.

There are also new custom enemies and features like Star Shards! Collecting five Star Shards will automatically grant you a star to blast through the level with temporary invincibility... but getting the shards will take extra time and skill! Is it worth the effort, or can you live without? The choice is yours~

Each level also has a Red Coin Remix, an extra challenge stage with Red Coins instead of time gates! New obstacles are added for increased difficulty, and the color palettes are changed to make the levels feel fresh. Altogether, that's 16 more levels, for a grand total of 32!

The remixes are accessed through the Warp Zone, which is a level select that unlocks after clearing all of the main stages. The warp zone even remembers which remixes you've cleared!* What happens if you clear them all...?
*Mari0 does not have autosave! Be sure to pause and save from the menu periodically.

One last thing: Retrush was NOT built for custom characters or multiplayer! You're free to try, but you may end up stuck in certain places or see other strange behavior. On your first time through, stick to Mario and other basic skins!

Once you've downloaded the mappack, open the game, choose Select Mappack, and drag the ZIP onto the game window. Select Retrush from the list and you're ready to go!

Mappack was decently made in Mari0, my favorite level is 1-1, the part of the mappack was too hard

Mappack was only available for Mari0 Special Edition, but now it's available for Mari0 AE v13
Does the mappack work in previous versions of Mari0 AE?

no, it relies on custom enemy properties introduced in v13. the original SE version of Retrush has been completely replaced and updated with some new things that don't work in older versions of Mari0

not to mention converting it from SE to AE was a nightmare

mappacks are platform-agnostic, so if AE runs on it then Retrush does too

The mappack's for Mari0 AE, if Mari0 AE runs on Windows XP Professional x64 Edition the mappack named "Retrush" will work too.

Someone should record a TAS of the full gameplay without failing. I also finished the full demo!

i've got a full playthrough of the demo going up on YouTube – a video of each level will be posted every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday until i've finished running through the demo! they're not perfect runs, but hopefully they do a good job of demonstrating how the levels are built for speedrunning πŸ’–

No, this mappack contains features that do not work in 1.6.
If you want to play, I suggest upgrading your computer to a newer version of Windows or Ubuntu.

Vladimir, please stop asking me about other versions of Mari0. Retrush is a mappack for AE and it will remain so for the foreseeable future.

If you'd like something to play that isn't for AE, click my avatar to find all of my old mappacks for 1.6 and SE/CE.

Retrush v1.0.1 is available! This is a non-critical update that contains no layout changes, just a handful of quality-of-life fixes. Changelog below:

Code: Select all

- Fixed an issue in Kiwi Keys where finishing the level from the checkpoint would leave the player with a random extra coin bit
- Fixed an issue where holding reload to return to the warp zone in Durian Drainway would not work
- Added markings for the entrance and exit of the final "maze" in Starfruit Scanlines

go right ahead! at some point i want to put together and release a proper Retrush enemy pack with some more robust enemy behaviors, but until then you're free to pull them from the .zip and use them directly.

keep in mind that the star shards and the custom vertical camera are NOT mine to share – those were made by WilliamFrog, so ask him first. everything else is fair game!

Β also could you please edit your post to put spoilers around the existence of corrupted bowser? thank you kindly!Β

took a little longer to write them all than i expected, but considering it's 38 whole posts full of screenshots and gifs and stories, i think writing all of that in eight months is a pretty good turnaround time!
