Hello again. It's high time for another Map Contest, and the first of 2018. I've decided to continue it off from here instead of restarting the counter each year because I think it'll make it easier for people to find the first one. I'm sure you know the rules, but if you don't, here they are:
-If you want to participate, just make a set of levels (no bigger than about 1 world), and submit it here, it has to follow the rules of the contest that you're participating in.
-There will be a theme for each contest, an objective, a key word, a style, you get me.
-For each contest the organizer can choose one version of Mari0 (1.6, an SE beta, a mod) for everyone to work with, and if people will be allowed to use a custom tileset, work with the tiles in the game, or maybe give a specific tileset.

[If you think we can add more general rules, feel free to suggest them]
These rules only apply to this Map Contest:
-I will not announce a winner if only one person enters, and I may add a few more extras to the voting phase if even more enter, so get people involved and creating!
-That's it actually.
Without further ado, the theme will be: Only Vertical Scrolling Whatever type of mappack it is, the screen may not scroll horizontally, but it can be as tall or as deep as you want.

You must use SE Community Edition
You can submit your entries until July 5th; that gives you 10 days to work.

Good luck, and have fun!

For easier access, the entries were:

It's called "Ascendio Bros. 3", and it's based on those vertical levels in SMB3 where you can wrap back from one side of the screen to the other (like 7-1).

Also, most of the tiles were ripped from SMM by RandomTalkingBush, the rest by me from SMB3.

Good luck to the other contestants :)

I can already see some Downwell-themed maps. Looking forward to it. Won't promise that I'll participate this time though, got loads of other maps in the making already :/

Good luck to everyone partaking!

I think that given the current level of activity in the forums, 10 days might be a bit too short to get a decent amount of submissions. I'm participating in another mapping competition that gives people 30 days after the first submission, and even then we often get 5 or 6 submissions only, and it's a relatively big/active community. Maybe, short of rescheduling this one, we could have longer deadlines for future contests? Just a thought :P

I know that I tend to hold on to my mappacks until the very last day so I have the most time to polish and bugfix, so I won't be terribly worried until the 5th. Besides, I can silently add a day or two to the contest.

I would like to know which game the competition you're in is for though, since I wonder how much the complexity of the editor could affect those results.

Additionally, a 10 day contest and a 30 day contest are very different games, because one doesn't easily allow for polish while the other does. With that in mind, while your solution may work, other ones still may prove to be necessary.

It's for Portal 2, so puzzlemaker editor (I'd argue it's simpler than Mari0's for the most part). Thing with Mari0 is that to make a mappack stand out, we need to add a decent amount of custom content (tiles, music, backgrounds, enemies). Yes, that still applies to Portal 2 if one's to map with Hammer, but my main concern is not even with the implied complexity given from the deadline, but rather problems with schedule. I personally don't have as much free time as I'd like to in order to participate, so this for me is the main factor why I probably won't participate in this one, but maybe that's just me and other people have no issues managing their free time to enter this contest.

And with that, the submission phase comes to a close. To vote, simply send me a PM containing the title of the mappack you want to vote for (with a descriptive subject line) either over the forums or Discord. You can click here to automatically send me one over the forums.

A couple clarifications:
  1. Voting will end one week after the original post, so Friday, July 13. spooky
  2. Contestants, I'm going to assume you're voting for your own map, and preemptively mark you down for that. If you do want to vote for the opposite map, you can still cast a vote and I will update the poll accordingly.

If you already have your map finished, I'll think about it, but I will not wait on you.
