Yet another Map Contest on the forums. Rules don't change from the last one.
  • If you want to participate, just make a set of levels (no bigger than 1 world), and submit it here, it has to follow the rules of the contest that you're participating in.
  • There will be a theme for each contest, an objective, a key word, a style, you get me.
  • For each contest the organizer can choose one version of Mari0 (1.6, an SE beta, a mod) for everyone to work with, and if people will be allowed to use a custom tileset, work with the tiles in the game, or maybe give a specific tileset.

[If you think we can add more general rules, feel free to suggest them]
For this contest, the theme will be:
Colors

Your map(pack) also needs to be compatible with Even Moar Stuff v1.1b.
(Guides on some of the features can be found HERE)
No requirement on the tileset.

Entries must be submitted by January 1st 2018 - 12:00 AM Central European Time (http://www.thetimezoneconverter.com).
A poll will be available up to January 7th HERE so you can vote for the winner.
Use this.
"Controls" (if we can call them like this):
  • Up/Down arrow: Select entry
  • Enter: Vote
  • Keyboard/Backspace: Used to input your name
Name will be remembered upon voting, so you don't have to retype it again.

Also, if you want the mappack you'll submit to be part of the DLC system of my mod, simply tell me when you apply for the contest ;p

ALL RIGHT! I can't wait! But could you be more specific with the theme? Like if it has to be a Colorful Mappack, have something to do with Rainbows, or a Color Enemy or something?

[UPDATE]
I just tried your Mod (Even Moar Stuff v1.1) and I love it. I already have some ideas. With your Mod, there are things I can do better with Mappacks.

I did not really have a specific idea when I came up with the colors theme, so it's entirely up to you. Also thanks.

I'll see if I can participate on this edition. Two things I'd like to comment, though: I don't think you should have the "Contestants" segment on the main post. We can't know for certain that the people who said they're going to participate will actually make it, and if feels otherwise unneeded; also, it'd be very helpful if we had a more complete guide to what your mod adds. All I can see is a list of features, but not how they're used.

Removed the contestants list, and added a series of guides in the main post of the mod.

Quick question: does this include Alesan99's enemy.lua?

It does not yet. I will be "fixing" this (and other stuff) asap.

As I said in my last post, I fixed some stuff in the mod (and added alesan's entity.lua). The contest will now be requiring version 1.1b.

So it doesn't respect the rules. Sorry, but unless you fix this, I can't accept it.
(Also there isn't such thing as Ever Moar Stuff 1.8, you probably mean the old version of the mod, Extra Stuff Mod)

I believe he was saying that opening the version compatible with Alesan's Entities in Moar Stuff would crash, while opening the Moar Stuff-compatible version of the map would work fine.

It can't, since Even Moar Stuff is a SE mod. It can't load the 1.6 format.

Did u notice there were 2 different versions of the mappack? One for 1.6, and one for SE.

For Moar Stuff and Alesan99's entities, no Even Moar Stuff to be found.

Yes I did. And I'm pretty sure he was talking about the 1.6 version when he said "crashes with Even Moar Stuf 1.1b"

Which doesn't fully respects the rules, but I might change them a bit and allow non-Even Moar Stuff entries (but that'd be better if the next entries are with my mod).

Also I know the names are confusing, sorry.

No, the other one's alesan99's entitles-compatible version.

No, just background issues.

Well, I just loaded your mappack in my mod and it worked. I didn't know SE could load 1.6 maps O_o.
But it's not fully working as the pipes are taking you to the correct sublevel -1 (for exemple, instead of going to 1-1_1, it brings you to 1-1) and other things that can crash the game (like the use of no longer existing entities that have been replaced)
So overall you just have to fix a few things and it's good to go (only if you feel like making it, I personally am fixing it on my side).

Also, I saw (with the enhanced version) that you made custom ? blocks. Fun fact, you can use animated tiles to achieve the same effect in my mod (unanimated tiles work too).

One last thing:
Eden GT (on the Discord server) wrote:mari0: Extra Stuff Mod is incredibly glitching while switching levels in-editor; sometimes the sublevels and backgrounds get replaced by other sublevels.
That is to be expected, it's my first mod. I only had a basic understanding of Lua and of how Mari0 worked (not that I'm an expert in any of these now).

I can't seem to download the mod; the page just doesn't load. Also, animated tiles don't seem to be portalable, which is weird.

Should be fixed now. But I will add a second "mirror".
QwertymanO07 wrote:Also, animated tiles don't seem to be portalable, which is weird.
Can you give me your tile? Because I've split the property into 4 different subproperties (one per side, which also happens to be the number of subvalues in a RGBA pixel ;p). If you set the alpha to 255, it will use the old "unportalize all sides". Else it's portalable if the value is > 127.
The values are red for top, green for right, blue for bottom and alpha for left.
(For exemple, if the pixel is set to [255, 0, 0, 254], then only the top and left will be portalable)
I should probably make a property guide. I though it was useless because of the tileset maker, but there's nothing for animated tiles

But... why? Why not have it so it's compatible with vanilla SE?

For this, it's not a huge issue, since I only had three offending tiles, so I just moved them behind other walls. Thanks for the help, though.

The wiki says setting the flag makes the tile unportalable.
But yeah, I realized it breaks stuff if the flag isn't set. Will fix in v1.2

Wy Prime
Whatever brought you, it's off.
Image Image

You were drawn to a bright and colorful palace, as it was said it contained what you most desired. After making your way inside, it was revealed to be more than you bargained for. Traverse three levels as stylish as they are dangerous, and make sure to fight with your head as much as your legs.

Although compatible, the mappack actually does not use any of the features from Even Moar Stuff, so it works completely fine in vanilla Beta 9.

Again, all the assets I made for this are completely free to be used to build your own garish palace.

Great mappack, but it completely assrapes my framerate, making some of the platforming very difficult. The concept of using this new variety of gel to kill enemies and activate buttons works very well for puzzles, however as said before, it absolutely fucks my framerate.

Just seen this updated first post. I'll just say that the "re-issue" might be only after when submittings are over as I will not be able to use my laptop for quite a few days, as I'm in a different place, using public computers. I thank I LOVE LUA very much for the fix, sorry for the inconvenience.

I know it probably won't be on time. But it's not because it's over that I can't come back and change the main post (mostly for this reason).
And that's why I still added your map in the entries because you worked on something and that would be unfair to disqualify you because it's not 100% compatible.

SUBMISSIONS ARE OVER!!! (slightly late, sorry, I was partying)

You can now vote for the winner here until January 7th.

Also that doesn't mean you can't continue your mappack if you didn't not make it in time (I'm talking to you Mr.L's Thunder ;p)

So, if Mr.L's Thunder posts their mappack (or anyone else, really, I just think they're going to be the only one to do this), start a new poll with it as an option, and if someone votes in both polls, only the new one counts. Otherwise, votes count equally for either poll. Of course, you'd need to track who voted so far, so this might not work.

Ok, I've made a little something with LÖVE so you can vote multiple times (overriding the last one each time).
I just need the name of the mappack Mr.L's Thunder is making (so it shows in the app thingy)
If you don't want to say it right now, it's gonna display

Code: Select all

(unknown)
Will be available --> HERE <-- (and in main post).
"Controls" (if we can call them like this):
  • Up/Down arrow: Select entry
  • Enter: Vote
  • Keyboard/Backspace: Used to input your name
Name will be remembered upon voting, so you don't have to retype it again.

Edit: uploaded with the (unknown). Will update it once we have the name of Mr.L's Thunder's entry.
