Good day, fellow users, i know it's been a long while since a lot of you have touched your copy of Mari0, but i think we can change that.
This is the first mappack contest of the year, and i guess the first of all, so let me explain how it will work:
-If you want to participate, just make a set of levels (no bigger than 1 world), and submit it here, it has to follow the rules of the contest that you're participating in.
-There will be a theme for each contest, an objective, a key word, a style, you get me.
-For each contest the organizer can choose one version of Mari0 (1.6, an SE beta, a mod) for everyone to work with, and if people will be allowed to use a custom tileset, work with the tiles in the game, or maybe give a specific tileset.

[If you think we can add more general rules, feel free to suggest them]
Alright, no more delay, now, the theme of this competition will be: One screen levels
(with sublevels, if you want to)
Be it a test or a platforming section, each area can't be bigger than the dimensions of the screen.

You'll have to use the SE Extended mod
You can submit your entries until April 1st, you have ten days to give your best shot at it.

I have no more to say, so i wish you good luck.

EDIT:
Contest is over, congratulations to HugoBDesigner for his mappack, Hollow Purpose!

The entries were:

I don't really see any reason to clamp the version, especially not for an early one like this. Mappers have already picked their favorite version, and forcing one they're not quite familiar with will just make them feel uneasy.

I think having a specific version is actually incredibly necessary:
  • Different versions have different features. Sticking to one version ensures that everyone has access to the same tools.
  • Since everyone has the same version, it makes it easier to play, critique, and judge each of the entries.
The only thing I can think to add is a time constraint (like a week or two). I'm definitely gonna join in on this, so let's get creative!

I may participate. I recommend you format it so that the rules are on a quote or collapse, just to organize it better.
Also having the deadline written in the main post would be pretty helpful too :)
EDIT: Having the theme and download easy to see would also be helpful

I'm late, but I've got some ideas :)

I'm more used to mapping for regular Portal 2, but I'll try to throw some puzzles together. Probably'll be mostly funnel based.

Busy Mario
contest entry by me
This map aka "Busy Mario" is a map/mini game where mario needs to keep an eye out on his plant
and his door for the mail man. The game goes faster after the first stage just for a heads up!

Since April 1st doesn't even start here yet, you'll have 30 more hours starting from the time this comment is posted, that's when April 1st ends here.
And good job everybody with these mappacks! For everybody who hasn't joined yet, you still have time.

Don't worry, hopefully this won't be the last map contest, so you'll have more chances to participate later on.

And then it turns out that this was one big, elaborate April Fool's joke.

Alright, here's my entry. Took me soooooo long, literally ever since the contest was announced. But I'm super proud.
NOTICE: Due to a bug with SE, the game might crash if you go from level 1 to level 2. HOWEVER, if you play that level from the editor, it works just fine.

Only two levels because, given how much effort I put, that's all I had time to work on. But hopefully the puzzles are challenging enough to keep you in long enough to make up for it.

Music by our talented OrbitalBlueprint, called "Hollow Purpose" just like the mappack.

Optional Challenge: Try playing both levels without resetting your portals (by pressing "r"), to be faithful to Portal 2. It's still solvable if you do, of course, which is why this is optional ;)

If you somehow get stuck with the puzzle in regards to not knowing how to solve it, here are the video solutions for level 1 and level 2

Hugo,I LOVED your mappack and I still can't even beat the first level. It's so tricky. And there are SO MANY animated tiles. I feel like you will win.

There will be a poll!
*Althought voting for Idiot may seem like a joke option, the people who submited maps are encouraged to select that option, that way we'll prevent them from voting for their won maps. This will be changed to a serious option next time, or it will be changed.
*The poll will be available till friday, but I'll check it on thursday, so be sure to vote before the end of thursday 6th (aprox. 100 hours from now on here)

Our host Hans is falling sick so he asked someone else to announce the winner of this contest.

And the winner of Stabyourself's first mapping contest is:
HugoBDesigner's "Hollow Purpose", with 5 votes.
Second place is xflotes's "Busy Mario" with 1 vote.

Congratulations to the winner- oh wait.
Congratulations to everyone else who participated as well! And thanks to the 9 people who voted!

I personally had fun and would have voted for Qwerty's map if I hadn't to vote for Idiot. Here are the voting results:

And if you're curious, here's the prize I'm getting:

Okay, but to be fair, I still made a pretty cool mappack that I can expand later, or put on my portfolio, and I got a couple YouTubers to play it, so it's not that bad actually ;)

Thanks y'all for stopping by! Hope to see you in the next contest. Who knows, might be hosted by me? ;)
