I Thirst: A Catholic Themed (I know. weird.) Modded Mappack

Yes. I'm back!

Ill just say this now, I myself am not a catholic or religious in any way.
The school i attend is catholic and are holding a small competition called the "I Thirst" contest. We are tasked with making a artistic expression of said phrase.
The entries are due in the first week of November. I really want to win for some reason.

So why am I here? Well i was trying to decide what to pick to do, everyone is doing photography / short films etc. All thats been done before. If i can blow the school away with a Game (or at least a mod of one) id have a good chance at winning. Gameplay would be really similar, Coins could be replaced with "thirst" and make the levels in a desert.

Its been a while since I've even played Mari0 and figured this contest could help me get back into the community
Ill set up a list of stuff i need to get done below.
Few quick things before i begin, ill be making this on SE so ill have to ask (again) for the download links because I'm rubbish at finding stuff. (it would be best to get the most stable version of the game for obvious reasons)

Another thing being that if the game does win. the school has said the winning entry will be "displayed" around the school so I'm assuming a bunch of people will play it.
with this in mind, some things in the game might have to be cut from the final version. The stabyourself logo might be a red flag, so i might put all the exact copyright / credit stuff on its own screen off to the side (maybe replacing the editor option). (surely i can get one of you guys to help me do that) I'll probably restrict the editor from being accessed from the home screen and limiting options to controls for simplicity reasons.

And finally before i begin
I should get the go ahead from someone at stabyourself.net to actually do this, Despite it being heavily modded its still your game at the core. (and even still its just mario bros with portal elements too).

They don't work on the game anymore and you don't have to ask permission. The game is pretty much open source now.

I also hope you win that contest. If you need any help, just ask me, I got your back.

I could help with tiles maybe. I have school too, though from 9:00 AM to 3:15 PM so just PM me whatever you need help with and when I come home I should be able to help.

Alrighty, so first thing, what is the most stable version of SE available? Also another thing, am i able to cut content from the game? like for example, i really don't want people to use cheats or other characters during the game, so if i were to take the game, modify content and repackage it into an app, it will not have said content?

Also it seems I've completely forgot how i am meant to actually get into the games assets. might need some refreshing.

viewtopic.php?f=8&t=4634 and download SE Beta 9.

And you can find tiles here, or another good place to look is Mario Fan Games Galaxy. On there they have a bunch of graphics and tilesets.

Or, uh I could you know, help make the tileset and enemies. Just a thought :)

As far as stability goes I believe that Mari0 SE: Extended is the preferred version. Also the love is a zip file. To get to the assets, you have to unzip it. Don't see how repackaging it into an app would help. You'd have to actually remove the content, or remove it's selection from the main menu.

I prefer the Mario SE with the better level editor.

Ok heres my first little issue. when the game boots there needs to be only one option for a character, so i thought, ill retexture mario into jesus and change the name of the folder. but when i do change the character folder from mario the game crashes on boot. any fix?

It's most likely trying to load a character that doesn't exist. Just add Mario back and switch characters, then delete him again. Or, if you're using Beta 9, rename the folder back to mario and add add " "name": "jesus", " somewhere in config.txt.

At first I looked at this and thought you were forcing religious beliefs

Ok so its been a bit slow and the deadline is getting closer, I'm making the character model but its playing up a bit, would someone be able to take the finished textures and put it together for me? character textures are really hard for me.
