Let me first say, I enjoy the game.
Anyway, I saw some interest in a Minecraft texture pack. and even some small ones that were already made.
So I put together a selection of textures anyone can freely use. Remix it, share it, have fun

Appdata is probably in C:\users\yourname\.
It might be "hidden", turn that off in folder options.

When I place the tiles.png file in a new folder in the mappacks folder, I receive this error when I try to select and use it:

I am on Windows 7, 64-bit. The game runs fine for me otherwise.

EDIT: Never mind, just had to make my own settings.txt and it runs fine. :D

Did you actually read the error? It says it all there. Instead of making the mappack folder yourself, create it within the game, just choose New Mappack in the mappack selection screen.

I tried a little yesterday experimenting with making maps for the minecraft mode, but it is just too fussy to reliably use for anything other than removing blocks and pillaring. both are not very fun to do constantly and quickly becomes tedious. I guess i will have to make a normal type of level

This would require more modding than you think. For a start, goombas only have 2 frames of animation, also, they are 1x1 whereas a pig would be 2x1.

Well, they don't necessarily need to be pigs. I'm sure we could find something that works...

Well, there IS the possibility of having Chickens though. They appear to be the only 1x1 mob other than Small Slimes.

It stopped working after I beat the Classic levels. I tried turning off all the Cheats but it still doesnt work.

You missed ALOT of things, it's kinda bugging me...
Here's what you missed: Stairs (Wooden, Brick, Cobble.), Pumpkins/Jack o' Lanterns, a flipped door (double doors), melons, the rest of the ores (replace the second iron ore with redstone --there's two solid iron ore blocks, both portalable), fire, redstone torches, etc...
Actually PLAY the game for a while on creative, then redo the tiles. I'm a hardcore Minecraft fan and it bugs me to see some missing tiles that are easy to see in Minecraft, but I could understand you wouldn't notice small things like redstone torches, the flipped door, maybe pumpkins and melons, but to miss something like STAIRS?! Whatswrongwitchu. Fix it, please.

and how would stairs work?
game soesn't have an 8x8 tile collision so they'd be blocks in disguise
also he'd have to put stairs over every block back so it can be placed in caves and such.

I'm planning on making an even more expanded Minecraft texture, so stay tuned if you're interested about minecraft mods. I haven't really played minecraft for a long while so I had to force update my MC and see what other stuff is new.

It did come to me that the stairs wouldn't be collidable so it would be like a backround block

Why do people have to literally have to make a folder named "your_mappack"? You go to the folder of THE MAPPACK YOU WANT TO PUT IT IN and save it as Tiles.png there.

When we say 'your mappack', we usually mean 'custom_mappack1,2,3' etc. or whatever you named it (hopefully), not literally 'your_mappack'.

When you make vertical scrolling, I'll make a mappack so you actually can mine for your blocks...

But will you want the mappack for SE?

I get that error when i make my own map pack i added the Tiles.png and settings.txt right i did it all mar0 (mari0_1.6_hatloader_test005) i really don't know why did i get this error i did everything right.

Sorry, but why do you use the settings.txt? I have never used that. You can use the tiles without whatever that is.

This is a TEXTURE PACK.

This is only the tiles.

No maps.

No you get it wrong i added a map pack and added tiles in it but if go into game i can't see it. It only creates new custom map packs which are empty.

Ok. So first, save the picture of the tiles as tiles.png
Then, create a new mappack.
Then, go to select mappack screen, push M
Then you will see a folder with all your mappacks.
Open the newest one.
Drag tiles.png from wherever you saved it into your mappack folder.

Then switch to a different mappack, then back to the one you just made.

Go to level editor.

Go to custom tiles.

You can then use these tiles in the mappack you shall create!

When I like good minecraft maps, it's because it's a good level, not because it's minecraft.

I have some suggestions!
1.add all the wool colors
2.make npc villagers (backround objects)
3.add pipes of all colors of wool and more pipe crosses
4.add my fav ore (emeralds)
5.add beds and torches with all blocks
6.add lapis
7.add more biome colors
8.make all the stairs (backround objects)
9.dont forget the slabs
10.add redstone torches
11.add melons and pumpkins
12.add underground and castle bricks though they never were in minecraft but add them anyway (recolored bricks)
this could give u something to do and if u add so much as one new block ill be able to improve my mappack u can also add blocks i didnt put on this list
