I have just started mapmaking for Mari0 and I wanted to start with something simple - I started making a mappack, and I'd like to know what you think about it.

I'll probably retexture the pipes to look a bit more like what they're supposed to be. Maybe. It's a lot of work ;_;
I uh... thanks, although it's a waste to put an effort into making a good icon when I haven't actually made much of anything yet. Thanks, however. I'll add it as soon as I'm done figuring out how custom graphics work.
In the graphics folder put all the edited sprites of the entities you want to mod with their correct filenames.
icon.png should be saved to the root of your mappack (where levels and tiles are)

Okay, I've added the icon (the first one) to the mappack.
I can't quite grasp how to add custom mappacks in SE. So far, I've only got them to work by replacing an already existing pack (e.g. save as smbtiles.png in graphics folder) -- how would I save them as a custom tile pack?

Those are called tiles. To add more tiles, rename the custom tiles file 'tiles.png' and place it on the root like the icon.
Er, yeah, my bad, tiles. Don't know why I called them mappacks. I'm probably gonna use one of those extended pipe mappacks since I have a lot of pipes here and they need to meet smoothly.

Also, I edited the pipe tileset I was talking about, expanded it a bit to use on this map.
Hopefully gonna have an update up soon.
Edit: Oh god damn it, the colours slightly mismatch.. no matter, I'll just replace every pipe, since there aren't that many. *inaudible sob*
