[WORLD 4 DEMO] What Not To Make!
This is a group mappack based on, none other than, what NOT to make for a mappack! I'll be organizing the whole thing.
Sort of like this... ...But in Mari0!
We're going to use *part of* Filio's text tileset as a base so that you can put the lesson of the level in the beginning, but anyone who needs to can build apon it.

Guidelines:
- Use the text to tell the player what the lesson of the level is, also known as, what NOT to do!
- One level per thing not to do, not doing the crappiest level possible, but a level that clearly shows one flaw.
- I might edit some levels, such as allowing to skip an entity spam level, but the basic idea of what you made will still be there.

I want levels that feature an overabundance of over-the-top shell puzzles (0'Brothers), deliberate beginners traps and Kaizo-grade difficulty complete with obscene enemy spam and little to no checkpoints (Mario Exploration) and levels with nothing to do with the subject matter (Twas the Night Before Christmas).

Let me go along and say this so it makes more sense: TTNBC was supposed to be a christmas-themed map pack; however aside form the placement of a few christmas-based scenery objects, it didn't feel very Christmassy; as the whole thing was just inside a winter cabin and seemed as a purpose to scatter cameos, while I thought that by World 2, the story would be abandoned and the remainder of the mappack (except for a few bonus levels) would take place outside on the days before Christmas, like the fifth world in Kirby's Epic Yarn or the Christmas-themed Level Pack DLC for Mega Man Powered Up.Turret Opera wrote: You mean, like, good levels?
One other thing: Unforgiving mazes or excessive numbers of lasers placed in areas where they'd be very difficult to avoid, or duplicate levels.
A mappack (that truth be told, I sort of like) that's several months old; Mario's Journey by RWlabs, has a couple of elements that I find very appropriate for how "not" to do a mappack.

Oh, and levels that lack reset pipes, forcing suicide or the timer running out. Empty levels too. And levels that can't be completed because not tested (unless this was brought up already).

See, this maze is not fun: there is no challenge (ok, apart from finding how to climb the vertical corridor, but that's because I fucked up :p)
You know what's the path to take, You see everything, and there is no monster or treat to stop you.
Mazes can be good if they are more elaborate, but a "pure" maze is boring.

I meant the mazes in castle levels and in certain map packs where you have to either A) go through five corridors which are very difficult to distinguish from one another, or tell whenever or not you're at the beginning of the maze, or B), have a room with five pipes, entering the correct one takes you to the next room, entering the wrong room takes you back to the previous room. This (along with seemingly impossible jumps) is one of the "rules to a good map pack" the mappack "Mario & Princess Peach" doesn't follow.
No "No cstle mazes" because I made a good castle maze level in 20 second run.

Here's another one that may work:
Having tiles that look exactly alike, one with collision and one without, placed next to each other, so players can't tell the difference and fall to their death. (These are mostly offensive if used in excess numbers with excessive difficulty, ala the Shell Puzzles in 0'Bros.)
Another thing in regard to the castle mazes, This is mostly targeted at the ROM hacks "Super Kamikaze Mario Vol 4" and "Kamikaze Mario DX+"; in their second worlds, they have a very difficult "castle maze". Every path looks ideally the same, and it's hard to distinguish whenever or not you're back at the beginning.
EDIT: I wanted to add; tile sets and/or backgrounds that clash in style, i.e. vanilla Portal and SMB tiles in the same level.

EDIT: I tried making the level files, and I keep getting the second level for both 1-1 and 1-2, even if they both have entirely different level data.

-It doesn't have the title in the level.
-I think we should do one level per "thing not to do": not doing the shittiest level possible, but a level that clearly show one flaw.
(Or then, we won't be able to make at least 3 worlds, and it won't even be educative)

Jony, make sure there's a SKIP and GO! pipe room before the actual level, so people don't have to risk playing.

I have made a one-level mappack with some evil tricks (such as a vine and a GO pipe that lead to a sudden-death room, and a pit you can't get out of, right to a faith plate leading to a warp where you only have a split-second of a reaction to go in). There are also some uses of the non-collidable floor block! I will post a download link later, as I do not have my computer available.

World 3:2 - overdifficult sublevels without working checkpoints
World 3:3 - extra hard moving platforms lvls.
World 3:4 - world wich can be finished only by using secret way wich autor keeped for himself
World 4:1 - Need death to continue from last checkpoint cause checkpoint was on another tunnel
World 4:2 - traps with no ecsape, puzzles with no solution
World 4:3 - lazer puzzles with no time for reaction
World 4:4 - lvl with good idea but easily compliting by portal gun abuses.
World 5:1 - uwful textures. Just looking bad
World 5:2 - to MANY RED, TOXIC OR ANY NON-WEB COLORS
World 5:3 - non-real half blocks, illusion blocks =\
World 5:4 - difficult long maze lvls without time to mistake
World 6:1 - COINS EVERYVERE. U NEED TO FARM THEM IF U WANT GET MORE LIVES
