As Dark[Ol(U23)leneri] and I'm guessing several other people have asked in the past, this is about a mappack downloader, but not within Mari0 itself. Since Sašo has said it probably won't happen, or it won't happen soon, I thought this would be a good idea. Maps are so scattered in this forum, it's hard to tell if the thread is a finished map, an unfinished map, a map on hold, a map with nothing to show, a map related thread (like this), a misplaced thread, or whatever else might show up in here. This webpage (website if it grows big enough) will organize all maps that have been asked to be put on the page so it's easier to find, download, and read about

The design is based on the Mari0 mappack selection screen. The page will feature the map's title, creator, description, icon, and a graphic that will show how many levels the mappack includes (not counting sublevels). The level graphic is designed to look like the level process graphic on Super Mario Bros. Deluxe. I want to eventually add a section that downloads a mod if the maps has/requires one, and some other things that have slipped my mind at the moment

I am now actually putting this webpage to work, so submit your mappacks in a reply on this thread! Ones that were on there previously have been removed now, but can be resubmitted. Please include the following things when submitting: an icon, a title, a short description, the name you want as the creator, a list of completed levels, and a link to the forum thread for the mappack. Only mappacks with at least 4 levels are being accepted, but this will change if needed. Please only submit your own mappacks and mappacks that don't require a mod to run, but if the mod is optional, this is ok

This webpage is currently in v0.1, and more will be added in over time

I think this would be very beneficial to the community if it works out. It would also be nice to include a rating system so that it's easy to see which ones are worth playing.

To the ratings, I thought about it, but couldn't find any decent looking ways to do this for free. I might use Facebook comments, but that limits things to just a "like". You can also log in with Yahoo, MSN, and AOL if I remember correctly

I'll add a few mappacks in a minute to see how it all looks

I have added it so that whenever you hover over a different map, the style of the box changes similar to the Mari0 version.

I think I'll just go with Facebook, I know nothing about PHP and MySQL. I mainly know HTML/CSS with basic knowledge of JavaScript

EDIT: Added the 8-Bit font, need to fix size of it still

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i4YraoWpB4c shows html and javascript. also dont use facebook cause it's either like or not like with vague feedback
maybe use both.

Also do you need the mari0 font as a tff?

THANK YOU!

Would you also consider a tileset database, with the creator's name there for proper referencing? This seems like it would be extremely useful as well.

I can probably do tiles, too, but later on

I've picked 4 mappacks by 4 different people from the ones listed to use for examples for now;
Mari0 Bros., Zeta, Fuis0n, and Super Mario Bros. Special

I've also noticed the font is slightly different than the one use in Mari0, mainly the ? and numbers

How come nothing happens when you click the mappack? My Idea: It should move you to another page with a description for the mappack, the picture of the mappack, and maybe a rating. Just an idea.

Right now it is just to show how it will work, nothing is actually functional. Making a page for everything would take up too much time, by clicking on it I will eventually make it expand and then it will show screenshots/videos/more info/download links

I'm 90% sure I'm going through with this now. I won't be hosting mappacks or images on my website, besides the few images used for examples. I recommend if you want to have your mappack in this database from here on out, include a link to your mappack that includes an image the icon, description used in Mari0 (try to use proper English), 1-5 screenshots/videos, and a download link (preferably a direct download site like Mediafire, not something that makes you wait to download). I'll use the creator from the person's username on the forums, since a few might be level recreations and have the creator as the original one, but you still made the new version. If your mappack thread includes any of the things listed, keep those out and just add what isn't there and add the link to the thread

I made a prototype rating system, all it does is select a rating, http://rokitboystuff.webs.com/ and look at rating system incomplete.

What i now need to do is mess around with cookies, and average the rating.

Edit: Kinda finished but webs is laggin really bad so try this:

Code: Select all

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html>
<body onload = "checkCookie()">

<script>
function myFunction(v)
{
rating = [false,false,false,false,false]

for (var i = 0;i<rating.length;i++)
{
	document.getElementById("r"+(i+1)).innerHTML = "O"
	//alert("hi")
	if ((i+1) < v+1)
	{
	document.getElementById("r"+(i+1)).innerHTML = "X"
	}
setCookie("rating",v,365)
}

}

function getCookie(c_name)
{
var i,x,y,ARRcookies=document.cookie.split(";");
for (i=0;i<ARRcookies.length;i++)
  {
  x=ARRcookies[i].substr(0,ARRcookies[i].indexOf("="));
  y=ARRcookies[i].substr(ARRcookies[i].indexOf("=")+1);
  x=x.replace(/^\s+|\s+$/g,"");
  if (x==c_name)
    {
    return unescape(y);
    }
  }
}

function setCookie(c_name,value,exdays)
{
var exdate=new Date();
exdate.setDate(exdate.getDate() + exdays);
var c_value=escape(value) + ((exdays==null) ? "" : "; expires="+exdate.toUTCString());
document.cookie=c_name + "=" + c_value;
}

function checkCookie()
{
var rating=getCookie("rating");
if (rating!=null && rating!="")
  {
  document.getElementById("rating").innerHTML = "Your rating: " + rating
  }
}
</script>

<button id = "r1" type="button" onclick="myFunction(1)">O</button>
<button id = "r2" type="button" onclick="myFunction(2)">O</button>
<button id = "r3" type="button" onclick="myFunction(3)">O</button>
<button id = "r4" type="button" onclick="myFunction(4)">O</button>
<button id = "r5" type="button" onclick="myFunction(5)">O</button>

<p id = "rating">Your rating: None</p>

</body>
</html>

and delete contents that are currently there, then paste it in http://www.w3schools.com/js/tryit.asp?f ... e_username

Once you get the parts with mods working (if they require one) here's mine:

Mari0: Whole Slice viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2166

(I could also give you Mari0 2 if you wish, and the mod link is in the description as well as the audio needed)

You should have a link to the forum thread and a direct download link for the mappack, with the file formats .zip, .rar, and .love (If it requires a mod, and if the mappack is inside the .love file), with icons.

Anyways, you can use this one. viewtopic.php?f=12&t=2711
Use this download. http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?b1opodiz8352ain

And for the file type icons, I suggest using mine I have on that thread above.

This looks great so far! :)

Mari0Maker, can you create an icon for the mappack that includes all four levels (resized to 150x150 or more possibly)? I'd rather not add separate ones for all four. Also, could you upload a version of the collection one that is only the mappack folder without the mod? I've decided I will add separate buttons for mappack, mod, and thread

ucenna, I ended up using the description used within the mappack since the current one won't fit properly. I also probably won't include Minus World in the level graphic since there isn't room and level on there are likely hidden special levels

And for anyone else, please include the description used in the mappack (which has a limit of 51 characters) and make the icon you post at least 150x150 so it doesn't look stretched

Works for me! Thanks to your database (or maybe my new mappack name) I got ten downloads in approx. 24 hrs. which is a record for me.

By the way, will there every be a way for me to submit my mappack directly to you database, and update it and stuff. If the database ever takes off you will probably end up with a lot of work on your hands updating level lists, adding new maps, and so on...

Your welcome!

At the moment, people submitting straight to the website isn't possible for me because I only know HTML, CSS, and a little JavaScript. I have been thinking of a way that I could have people manually edit their mappack details though, but I have to look into it

EDIT: People manually editing their mappack's, icon title, description, and creator is possible and I can get it running. I'll add a how-to later once I get more with it. From what I've done so far, you can't change the level graphic, yet, so it would have to be changed by me. Once I get direct download options, that will be able to be changed by anyone as well

EDIT 2: If you want your mappack on here and want to be able to manually update info yourself, here is how you do it!

Make 3 .txt files, each one including one of the following (substitute with your info). The first file name should be "title", second "author", third "about":
document.write ( "TITLE OF MAPPACK" )
document.write ( "NAME OF AUTHOR" )
document.write ( "DESCRIPTION" )

Make a scaled version of your icon to at least 150x150. If using Paint.NET, when resizing, change to "Nearest Neighbor". Name this "icon" and make sure it's a .png

Sign up on http://freedrive.com/

Make a folder named mappacks and upload these four things to it

Go to one of the files, copy and paste the download link somewhere, and find something like "fd_372284" and post that here

From there, I can get the rest done! If you need to change any of these files at any time, remember to delete them off FreeDrive first!

Beautiful! You might want to add that howto to the first post for ease of access. A few things:
Does that fb_xxxx represent your whole cloud drive or just your mappack folder?
Oh, and people should know that that paint.NET thing isn't strickedly necessary, It just might make the picture turn out more accurately. Just so you know the equivilent in gimp is to set interpolation to 'none'
other than that, I think it's awesome, and I'm excited for direct download links, forum locations, rating systems, and any other thing that may or may not ever be added to this.

P.S. You might want to add the number of characters that can be used in the title, author, and description; to the howto.

I believe that it represent's the user's ID, but I could be wrong because I only tried one folder, but I'm almost sure

I will be using a URL similar to this one to embed what is used in each file
http://node1.nirvanix.com/FreeDrive/fd_[USER ID]/[FOLDER]/[FILENAME].[EXTENSION]

I will add this to the main post soon. I'm not entirely sure what the character limit will be yet for everything, since it all depends on the user's screensize, but it'd proably be for the best to use Mari0's limits

ucenna, everything that is currently changeable for you now works, have fun! Also, just wanted to point out, you don't have to make an icon in 150x150, just resizing the 50x50 for the actual mappack works best. If you just use a 50x50, it show up like the first big one

Image

SonicStalker, I would be happy to include both of the mappacks, but please include the title (since it might be different than the thread's post), author (same as before), description, icon, and completed levels. You can also do the self changeable method and just give me the ID code, but I still need the completed levels

Smear-Gel, your mappack is now added

I need to figure something out with the "WANT YOUR MAPPACK HERE?" thing, because I need to move it around everytime I add a new mappack or it screws things up

Okay! For those who want to know Mari0's character limits are:
title: 17
author: 13
description: 31

And here's a wonder script for those who are having trouble added mappacks to the database:
http://www.mediafire.com/view/?yep5hyqv7lcblz0
"It does EVERYTHING!"
"Will it help me upload my mappack to the database?"
"No, but it can perform CPR, watch your kids, and-"
"But will it makes TripleXero's job easier?"
"No, but it can tell you if any of your relatives are ponies..."

OK, I'll give you the info.

Title: Automatic Mario
Author: Josiah W
Description: A Mario game that plays itself
Icon: Image
Enlarged Icon: Image
Levels in Pack: 1-1, 1-2, and all of World 8

Oh, and can you somehow make the position of the "Want Your Mappack Here?" a variable that changes with the number of mappacks you have? I'm no HTML coder, but that should help with that problem.

TripleXero wrote:ucenna, everything that is currently changeable for you now works, have fun! Also, just wanted to point out, you don't have to make an icon in 150x150, just resizing the 50x50 for the actual mappack works best. If you just use a 50x50, it show up like the first big one

I need to figure something out with the "WANT YOUR MAPPACK HERE?" thing, because I need to move it around everytime I add a new mappack or it screws things up
The Title and author are all the same as they appear in the forum post, The title of the first one being "The Testing Track" by "SonicStalker" and the title of the Second one being "The Testing Track 2 DEMO" By "Sonicstalker"

Just so everyone knows, I've read all the posts, but I'm on my phone and it would be a pain to add things to the website from this

Also, is Times New Roman the font that shows up for everyone (besides the heading of the page)?

I think so... I'm not positive because I don't normal use TNR (I like to stick to opensource fonts)
On comparison to the font on wiki, seems their practically Identical. Minus the W, which is slightly different.
