-Information-
This map pack is not going to grab any random map that drops in there are certain rules for making a submission but since we're planning at the moment we'll leave it be.

how to submit
Image

other rules
every level should have a minimum of two and a maximum of 5 mushrooms/flowers, and either no or a single (well-hidden and difficult to reach) 1UP mushroom, and zero to two stars. Plus, a level should be beatable by both Small Mario and Big Mario.

No portal themed levels please.

note- worlds 1-1 and 8-4 will be done by team leaders.

-Planning-

first up we need world themes (we've chosen a tile sheet so we're not taking suggestions or submissions for tiles BE CREATIVE WITH WHAT YOU HAVE!)
I need you to come up with what world themes would fit best with the maps worlds and depending on what get's the most votes that'll be the level order

so here's the world theme order so far.

World 1: Urban
World 2: Pirate
World 3: Ruins (based on Greek mythology)
World 4: Casino
World 5: Cruise/Battle Ship
World 6: Future City
World 7: Volcano
World 8: Space

last chance to suggest music (and if our music designer hasn't finished by the time of release.)

we're still accepting musicians by the way.

I think this should be the themes for each world.

World 1: Urban
World 2: Pirate
World 3: Ruins (based on Greek mythology)
World 4: Casino
World 5: Cruise/Battle Ship
World 6: Future City
World 7: Volcano
World 8: Space

Deadlines could run two months (62 days) after a fraction of the team is organized. This will give everyone a chance to make their levels as good as they can be.

Also a few notes for participates:

*At this time, one level per person. You may create any number of sub-levels, but remember the checkpoints that only work on the main level, and not sub levels.
*Keep both the difficulty and length of the level you choose based on where the level in the map pack it is located. A World 2 level would be easier than a World 6 level, for instance. You also want a good time limit that gives you enough time to romp through the level without rushing. No level may be set to indefinite time.
*Any use of either the default Mario or Portal tiles bundled in Mari0 is not recommended. Use of them will result in said tiles being omitted and replaced in the final release of the map pack. This is why I included a great variety of colors (111 of them) in the tile set you will be using, including non-portable surfaces. If you do create a puzzle-based level, give it a theme based on what world it is located in.
**The only exclusion is Bowser's bridge and the accompanying suspension chain tiles, as the collected axe does not collapse any tile other than the two stated.
*Backgrounds are allowed, though they must be simple and 8-bit styled, multiple layers are allowed.
*No mods.

I don't want to add team leaders without their knowledge
if they want to be a leader they have to ask first.
also we've decided on the tile set but I'm not going to say what it is so people can't jump in and throw a map in our faces,
but since people need an idea of what level themes are available
we're using sjbs tile set v3.1

I'll be creating a mod that amps up the graphics of the player and environment later after completion. (redesign, not over 8-bit!... except for the gun since it already broke the rule..)

refer to my previous post for the tileset
(link)
and in my first post I've said that we're planning at the moment (don't want a desert level to suddenly go to an Ice level)

I'll be making a list of themes and depending on the amount of votes the themes receive, they'll be chosen.

Can I be a team leader?
If you have not seen my work, my mappack is 20 Second Run.

My Suggestion For Map Themes
World 1: Grass (1-1 and 1-3), Underground (1-2), Normal Castle (1-4), Main Theme: Normal.
World 2: Beach (2-1 and 2-2), Underwater (2-3), Underwater Castle (2-4), Main Theme: Water.
World 3: Multiple Pirate Ships (3-1, 3-2 and 3-3), Pirate Dungeon (3-4), Main Theme: Pirate.
World 4: Desert (4-1), Pyramid (4-2), Oasis (4-3), Ruins Of Greek Castle (4-4), Main Theme: Desert.
World 5: Grass (5-1), Small Castle (5-2), Sky, (5-3), Sky Castle (5-4), Main Theme: SMB3 World 5
World 6: Snowy Mountain Top (6-1), Rocky Mountains (6-2), Bottom Of The Mountain (6-3), Rock Castle (6-4), Main Theme: Rocky Mountain
World 7: Rock (7-1 and 7-2), Haunted House (7-3), Battleships Guarding Final Castle (7-4), Main Theme: Transition
World 8: The Final Castle (8-1, 8-2 and 8-3), The Final Battle With Cake And Princess Afterwords (8-4), Main Theme: The Final Castle

Also, suggested music is an 8-Bit Guile's Theme or this.

EDIT: reworded/fixed

When it comes to the world themes, the reason I made those out of nowhere choices is because I don't want to recycle the biggest world theme cliches used in NSMB and NSMB (despite the two games ordering the themes of Worlds 3, 4, and 5 differently).

Also, here are some ideas for the music, again so we don't do anything ridiculously common and mainstream. This is only if we decide to mod the game, if not then use only the final suggestion below.

For overworld-based levels:

*Tazmania/Arizona- Tazmanian Devil, Munching Madness (GBC)
*Area 1- Dragon Spirit (Arcade)
*Niagara Falls- DuckTales 2 (NES/GB, GB version preferred)
*Stage 1- Gimmick! (NES)
*Overworld- Pocket Zaurus: Ju Ouken no Nazo (NES)

For underground levels:

*Religion -AXE-- Motos (Sharp X68000)
*Stage 4- Gimmick! (NES)
*Stage 2- New Ghostbusters II (NES)
*Cavey Cavey/Cave Dweller Concert- Donkey Kong Land (GB)

For underwater levels:

*Stage 2- Gimmick! (NES)
*Swimming Theme- Golgo 13 - Top Secret Episode (NES)

For castle/dungeon levels:

*Stage 5- Gimmick! (NES) (Yes I did play SMB Crossover with the Demon Returns skin)
*Stage 5- New Ghostbusters II (NES)

And for the game's sole custom music, meant to be used in puzzle-based rooms:

*Hevol- Atomic Punk/Bomber Boy (GB)

I have mp3's of all these songs, incase I need to send some over (which I will have to do because some of these I had to rip myself but never posted online)

well I'll see what I can do about the music when I start the modding,
I was kinda thinking for the first world should be a basic theme so players can get used to it,
it's why I listed grass theme for the first world then removed it.

also only one theme per world please
Turret Opera I don't know you very well but I'll check your map out and talk it over with sjb.

Well, I wanted to have looser themes for the worlds, but I put the "main theme" there just incase...

Also that mappack has a very consistant theme; given I don't have to do as much work.
I also made a level in the other group mappack

just a heads up no crossovers guys.
Just Mario stuff... at least not in the graphics (until we can get someone to create us some original music tracks which I doubt)

me and sjb kinda wanted to have a rule one,
see with your one your allowing anyone to create levels in the game, (allowing much more freedom)
and we're doing a more strict map,
we're not revealing the rules for submitting a map just yet(heads up it doesn't involve download links it requires something else that I'll reveal later.)
we're getting planning out of the way first,

also I'd love to see a map from you, Good luck with you group pack.
Also I've decided after I get around five requests we'll choose whether they will join as team leaders, also please link to any pre made maps that you've made and completed.

One more suggestion with a BGM I just got hooked on.

For over world levels, Marion Club's practice holes from the GBC version of Mario Golf.

No offense, but I don't like those suggestions. First off, I already suggested half of these world themes. and I don't prefer a Portal-based world since the Portal tile set is not 8-bit and would feel out of place when placed along other tiles, and there already exist hundreds of levels like it using the same tile set and background, so if we were to have puzzle-based levels, they'd have to be themed after the world they're in, maybe taking place outside, and I'd only like one per world, so that generic platforming is still a basis of the game (with portals being used to clear some gaps too high and/or wide for a normal jump).

The music suggestion, while the song is good, I don't like any BGM using that "8-bit style music converter", nor remixes of major hit songs. I'd say stick with video game BGM from old consoles.

Yep, using insults is the best way to get on the good side of one of the MAPPACK LEADERS, isn't it?

I would try to jump on board for this, but I have no ideas for any good levels right now. So I wish you the best of luck with your mappack, guys.

I've been pm'd about someone who's willing to compose some music, but as it was a pm I'll keep it quiet and only tell it to team leaders... a.k.a sjb...
also I've been pm'd about a team leader permission (again it's a pm so no names)

how it's going to work is I'm going to make a list of pros and cons of a user who has sent in a requests (I'll make a few exeptions) and share it with other tls (referring to team leaders to save time and stuff :P) they have to make a list of pros and cons (if I haven't listed one they found) and if the pros out way the cons, you can guess the rest.

If not that sounds realistic, but I'm sure i have more pros then cons like I visit stabyourself forums on my 3DS.

Alright.
I think I will apply.

Ok, so I feel I can bring a lot to the table as a team leader.
First off, I have lots of experience in this area before. (as in the very one who inspired this, which I believe is a pretty safe assumption)
Sure I led one in a way that made others feel different leadership was needed, but I led it the way I said I would.
I preset dates, told I want a variety, and tried my hardest to work through problems.

I am learning a lot.
Was a week enough time?
I'll learn soon. (but actually, most people tried to make it in the first day possible)
Should I have written the dates to start and not to use the beta testing tileset in a bigger font?
Definitely!

I have seen a variety of levels to learn from so far.

I have made my own unique mappack with one world (and a very secret one). It was going to get bigger, but was never finished.
I have learned how absolutely TERRIBLE it was because it didn't have any kind of decorative items (trees, clouds, bushes)
I have Remade that MapPack, but have not released it, though I will for this when I get on the upstairs computer (didn't finish it, but remade the bad to good...)

Hope I can Serve as a Team Leader with You Guys!
I would LOVE help leading in the creation of one that has actual organized themes! (I think a variety can be fun, but never the best, just something to mess around with, but this map, I can see it making the DLC...)

I don't see this making it as a dlc map just yet as we haven't really started development,
also I've received enough requests for team members so you're going in the next list.

I think 62 days is a bit much of a waiting time imo (that's why were planning unless we're talking until whole map is completed.)

I've always preferred the SMB3 one for some reason. It just looks less static and has a more 'pleasing to the eye' color set.
But it mostly depends if it will fit with his surroundings. So pick whichever one fits the maps the best.

I'd prefer to avoid the smb3 mario since everyone always use it for their Mario fangames. But if people want it I'll do it.

Color really doesn't matter, as the player can change the colors of Mario anyway, so it's really about the style of Mario that's needed to be chosen. In my opinion anyway.
Personally though, I think we should get rid of that SMW Pirate sprite, as his face is all sorts of f*cked up. He looks like he's stoned and his nose has started sagging or something. The SMW wip one is a much better if people prefer the SMW style.

Whatcha think? I resized them to fit the normal mari0 size but I think most of them look fine and I'll redo it if you like.
Hope this helps me become a team leader! ;)

wow nice did you make those your self? (don't know why you chose dr mario but oh well)
my fav's the second one,
anyway as for world themes I think we'll do sjb theme world since it's the most creative,
sjb could you maybe give an image of what each worlds terrain should look like e.g.Image
and the next bit of planning is where the underground levels and water levels go
(there's a maximum of 3 of underground and water levels each other wise every world would have these two.)

we do have a music designer but until he can produce anything we'll (again) stick to sjbs music suggestions.

I've decided to talk to team leaders about the deadlines.
