Stages will be a separate thing, and I might even include an in-game stage creator, a la Brawl.
I would also like to submit that the fightyourself chat room is a pretty decent place.

If you can't sprite, you can at least do a rough drawing of how you would want to look. Would help the spriters for reference.

For right now, according to the OP, around 100x50px big and done in Kiashi's art style. But for right now, Camewel's writing a program to help with it so don't make something too intense.

EDIT: I'd also suggest putting the chat room link in the OP so those who are interested in helping can find it easier.

With the animation, do you mean like we create each body segment like shins, thighs, torso, head, etc, and you then use some sort of code you later invent to animate them? If so hopy shet thank you.

That's just a rough guide of what an average person would be sized, all parts put together. Some people will probably be bigger or smaller (hi renhoek).

EDIT: if in doubt, make it too big. Big to small looks much better than small to big.

Looks awesome.
Not sure how the whole 'loose body parts' stuff is going to work out though.
I'd need to see it in action to get more of an idea.
For now it sounds like it would look like a rag-doll fight.
But either way, when it's decided and I have some more instructions to go on, I can start creating my character.

I don't think it's very good myself (because I'm a self hating ass) but I tried to make him look cartoon like.

Assassin's sprites look pretty good and I'll make some derp animations to show you what I mean.
Ren's are okay as concept art but we really need some unified art style before everyone spends time making things.

Well other than Kiashi most of it is concept art, so it mostly can be reworked when we do decide.
I really like the style Kiashi made as well.

So if I were to join this, should I choose a different design other than my black-white split? Found out in Mari0 as soon as I made it that the sprites would be mirrored and white will never be in the foreground... So maybe I should. .-.

I'm flattered that I'm already on the roster, and I'm definitely interested in participating. Of course, I'm a terrible procrastinator, but the way the sprites are being done will make it a hell of a lot easier for me. Those stats are completely out of measure for any kind of fighting system...
In a basic fighting system where there are 3 stats with 10 levels each, a basic, normal balanced char would have 2 stats at 7/10 and the remaining stat at 6/10, wich means that:
You would do very little damage to any char who has at least 7/10 defense.
You wouldn't have enough speed to be much faster than a char with 7/10 speed.
Any char with at least 7/10 attack would crush you in just 3 hits.

Stats need much more planning, and as long as Camewel doesnt tell(or set) how the balancing system will work, any planning is pretty much useless.
Also, to have a well balanced game, Camewel should be the one who gives stats to each char, based on descriptions of how each user wants his char to be.

Jony, that chat room is rarely serious and ever rarer still relevant, so unless idiot or I are there you can probably disregard all messages as jokes.

Don't worry to much, I've honestly been doing stuff because I have to much time on my hands and not enough to do. Also some people are working on other things as well. This has only recently started, so try not to stress.
