Making games from ideas.
I've had an idea for a project that I really like. This is a project that will come way in the future. The only thing standing in my way is that all the experience I have is of creating horrible code. I need more practice before I make something I will be actually proud enough of to post on the public forums. And this is where this topic comes in.
I am willing to make small games (I'd spend about a week making each one, maybe more, maybe less) for people if they can provide a gameplay synopsis and some sprites to work with. I'm very much open to weird, outside-the-box ideas, something that would require me to think and do something new would be good. I'd rather not make a game based on another, so no "Megaman with a portal gun!!!!!!!!" please.
I will make every game posted in this topic as long as:
a) It contains no copyrighted stuff.
b) You will actually produce sprites for the game (otherwise enjoy your grey box game).
c) It's not a ridiculously complex idea (such as Pokemon).
If you don't know if your idea is too complex, post it here and I'll tell you.

How bout a game titled Super Generic Bros, Where instead you pound bricks like mario but instead bricks would fall down and hurt you like in real life and pipes would spray water, Hitting blocks would still give normal power-ups but you would be stunned for a moment as if you were in pain from hitting metal. And loads of spoof bosses and items are in the game.

I'd suggest somthing like Atari's Pitfall. Just with some different features. I could possibly make some sprites.
If you need sounds, I can do that easily, and yes, they'll be custom. :)

A idea!!
You play as a archeol. that finds a cursed temple lost for centuries..
You find the treasure room, but you fall into a pit that bloocks the way back up...
So you walk on and find portals that allow you to go to different places and allow you to find gems that upgrade your gear to match enviroments and help against bosses..
The gems also help to find a way to escape!!
So if you like my idea, I will pm you the levels and sprites!!!

This game already exists..Qcode wrote:That's barely anything to work off of. Try suggesting a specific concept. Also if anyone quotes Pyrosaur on this idea:I'm already working on this.Pyrosaur wrote:I've had what I think is a pretty interesting idea for a game for a while. It's a game where everything is as realistic as possible: your character has average jumping ability and speed, enemies are simple, ect. But you also have the ability to switch back and forth between the game being realistic and unrealistic (better running and jumping, but the enemies become unrealistically tough), to help you solve puzzles. Some things you would only be able to do in the "unrealistic" mode, and others would only be able to happen in the "realistic" mode. Any thoughts?
This is a great idea.Dragonberi wrote:A idea!!

Heres one I didn't want to spill But I've decided I'll the public you have it.
The story is a boy who has a deadly decease. (The kid's name is John) and has only 1 year left to live. He then Sees a commercial showing an antidote to his disease, He steals a gun from the convenience store and sets off to Antarctica, There are 8 worlds and each world has a boss of Whatever would fit that world, fighting for the antidote. then the final boss is the man showing the antidote, Gameplay is like megaman where you jump and shoot, Sliding is in the game but mainly used for dodging, No Puzzles or anything else just a jump and shoot game like megaman, Four levels per world. If anyone takes this idea, PLEASE PM and Put my name in the credits.

How bout there is a timer on the game and the game must be completed in a week or else You must restart from the start of the world, Bit like Pikmin
Also for 100% You must Use the level ups in previous areas to grab the artifact which if collected before the end of the game will give you the "Good" Ending.
(Each World has its own unique power-up you gain from the bosses.)

Isn't there a Zelda game with that timer idea?
I'm gonna stop you right here. There is no way you're going to be able to release a game where you have to murder children with cancer for your personal gain. It's sick.Legend_of_Kirby wrote:He then Sees a commercial showing an antidote to cancer, He steals a gun from the convenience store and sets off to Antarctica,

Better? I edited it
finds cure for deadly disease, instead of using it goes to Antarctica to kill things...Legend_of_Kirby wrote:He then Sees a commercial showing an antidote to cancer, He steals a gun from the convenience store and sets off to Antarctica, There are 8 worlds and each world has a boss of Whatever would fit that world.
you shouldn't be using cancer as a plot devise either since it's a really serious disease.

Antartic is where the cure is...
Also I edited "Cancer" From the story since xXxrenhoekxXx was correct.

Would you be able to make an isometric land with a simple sprite to control and manipulate in the world?
I tried to follow this tutorial in the LOVE wiki and it may be out of date, I just need a more recent example for LOVE 0.8.0.
Here's the source material including a block to use, a little guy, and the code I copied from the tutorial:

Mkay, that changed something, however I'm still getting an error:Maurice wrote:The issue isn't that that tutorial is old, it's just missing some stuff.
grid_x and grid_y should be numbers (try 400, 400), and the double for loop that does the drawing should go in love.draw().
After the edits you suggested, "attempt to perform arithmetic on 'grid_x' (A table value)"
On line 28, where this code is (26 to 29):
Code: Select all
if grid[x][y] == 1 then
love.graphics.draw(grass,
grid_x + ((y-x) * (block_width / 2)),
grid_y + ((x+y) * (block_depth / 2)) - (block_depth * (grid_size / 2)))

Hiya! Excuse the double post bump again, but I went back to this project of mine, and... I think I accidentally the code. Is that bad?
Cool effect, but not what I wanted. I simply added another variable "grid_z" to run off "block_height", edited and added some extra "For" loops and got this.
Also, if you would like me to make a separate thread for this, please say so.

I think you misunderstand...
The problem lies in the line I made in the drawing "for" loops:
As of that example, I got it back to normal, albeit with some black borders, but that's okay with me for now.
I'm so behind on my math, but anyways the problem had something to do with that line. I do believe I need to find some other way to move it? because multiplication and division will only result in rotation, when I want one block higher terrain.
The problem lies in the line I made in the drawing "for" loops:
Code: Select all
for x = 1,grid_size do
for y = 1,grid_size do
for z = 1,grid_size do
if grid[x][y][z] == 1 then
love.graphics.draw(grass,
--grid_x
400 + ((y-x) * (block_width / 2)),
--grid_y
400 + ((x+y) * (block_depth / 2)) - (block_depth * (grid_size / 2)),
--grid_z
Right there---------> 400 + ((block_depth / 4) / (block_height / 17)))
--else grid[x][y][z] == 2
--love.graphics.draw(dirt,
--400 + ((y-x) * (block_width / 2)),
--400 + ((x+y) * (block_depth / 2)) - (block_depth * (grid_size / 2)))
end
end
end
end

I have a interesting idea that is based on games like Resident Evil (not 3 & 4) and Doom (not 3). You play as a survivor who goes to bed and gets awoken up at night with a zombie trying to bash down your door. You check outside your window to find a portal opening and zombies+mutants pouring out..
You quickly get changed as a badass with music to match...
And that is when you choose to be a girl or boy or before you get changed..
And if you have played RE and Doom, then you will be familar with fact that you have to look behind you every three seconds or you die...
So that is my idea..

And, what's the gameplay? It's just a zombie survival Fps?
sounds like a generic shooter to me.Broponi wrote:I have a interesting idea that is based on games like Resident Evil (not 3 & 4) and Doom (not 3). It still needs another element. Like bosses that manipulate the room or platforming (or both)
Chicken Wars: Avenge of the Beaver.
Perfect idea! It just works so perfectly! [/sarcasm]ShankYourself.net wrote:Chicken Wars: Avenge of the Beaver.
You need to give more information than just a title. What genre of game is it? What's the story? What are some of the mechanics, how is basic gameplay, are there collectibles, etc. etc. etc.
Without a basic idea of how you think the game will be there's no way anyone will ever consider using your idea.

Somebody needs to make a series of games emphasizing the total shittiness of First Person Shooters at the moment.
copypaste, little to no changes in game engine, lack of caring toward cheaters and supportive of douchebaggery, shitty health mechanisms, glorified killing, lone wolf attitudes.
I think the point has been made...

So you want us to go out of our way to make a bad game to show how other things are bad?

This has happened. Cod of duty to name one.BobTheLawyer wrote:So you want us to go out of our way to make a bad game to show how other things are bad?
There is this other one called duty calls that emphasizes how unrealistic the cod franchise is.
Generally pouting out game flaws is not that common of a genre but there are a lot of takes that do so.
DLC quest was pointing out that sometimes you need 100s of DLC to actually complete the game
Also, countless SimCity "clones" that make fun of the multiplayer and drm.

Ponymon.
A hack of Pokemon Firered/Leafgreen, but replaced by ponies.
