I think the original ones look better. You either make it look good, or make use the nes palette (Not saying the NEs palette is bad).

Mari0's collision messes up if the width or height aren't a multiple/divisor?(I think this is the right term) of the goomba's size.

Region triggers should have the option to only detect enemies.
This would allow rooms to detect if you defeated all the enemies so it lets you go to the next one.
