I'm not going to claim that there's a best answer, or even that my ideas would necessarily work the best for your purposes, but here are a few things you could try: Reserve them for levels or areas with additional pressure (i.e. Lakito levels, bullet and fish zones...) I've posted this earlier on Discord, but I'm keeping it here for posterity. Anyway, I don't really like how you use piranha plants. They often break the flow of the level without contributing much tension or serious problem solving.

My trick is to go into a portal loop to gain a lot of height, then alternate floor portals so you basically never touch the ground.

The filepath doesn't really matter as long as the .exe and .dll files are in the same place. It's like this for every love2d game.

xinput and dinput are just differing gamepad input standards. Outside of compatibility, I'm not really sure what the difference is.

I know the PS4 uses dinput, so if you can find something that can convert that to xinput, it should be fine. "Should" being the operative word here.

I think you can run a Beta 8 map through the converter (viewtopic.php?f=12&t=1970) to use it in Beta 9 and up, but don't quote me on that.

Shaders are scripted in GLSL, which is based on C, along with a bit of LOVE's own syntax. You can also add premade ones, if you don't feel up to scripting your own.

No words are real; they're all made up at some point. In this case, I'm basing it off of Latin roots; "inter-", between; "ludo", game; and "-ic" and "-ally" to make it into an adverb.
