Re: Problem running love games on a Raspberry Pi
LÖVE 0.8.0 won't work on the Raspberry Pi for several reasons, including lack of support in SDL (LÖVE 0.8.0 relies on an older version of SDL) and lack of an OpenGL ES backend in LÖVE, which the Raspberry Pi requires for hardware-accelerated rendering. This branch of LÖVE 0.9.1 ( download ) will run...

Monitors can only output 24 bits per pixel (8 bits or 256 values per channel of red, green, and blue). While more than enough for nearly all colours, it's not able to perfectly represent everything. You can definitely make all the colours you'd want, though.

Re: background size
LÖVE now automatically pads non-power of two images with transparency on systems which don't support those dimensions. That means that a repeating image will not look the same on all systems if it doesn't have power of two dimensions, since there could potentially be a bunch of blank space.

If you want the image to work on all computers, don't go over 2048x2048. If you want the tiling to work correctly on all computers, make sure both dimensions are powers of two (for example, 128x256).

Re: HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE GAME? CHECK HERE FIRST
Apple's own compiler (XCode) stopped supporting PPC by default a year ago, their last 2 OS versions have not been PPC compatible, and the latest (Lion) does not even run Rosetta (PPC emulated) programs. This makes it not very fun to develop something for a platform with only 1% of the OSX market.

A decent online multiplayer implementation will take much longer than an hour or two to implement. ;)
Some things could probably be simplified a lot because it's 2d co-op, but it's still quite a complex topic even for people who have been programming games for many years.

Re: What do the shaders do???
The init.lua code also does checks on each individual shader when trying to apply them for the first time to see if it would have crashed the game. Basically it means your computer really doesn't support them.

Re: What do the shaders do???
shaders/init.lua, at the top. It checks for support of both shaders (called pixeleffects in LÖVE) and Framebuffer Objects (called canvases in LÖVE). Framebuffer Objects are necessary to treat the entire screen as an image so it can be post-processed. AFAIK they're more supported than shaders.

Yeah tricking the video card wouldn't work. Sometimes later versions of drivers will support more features on certain video cards, but most of the time it's limited by the actual hardware rather than an artificial constraint imposted by software.

Weird, wikipedia claims all of the nvidia geforce 8xxx series support OpenGL 2.1+, however the nvidia page for the 8500 says it supports OpenGL 2.0 by default. LÖVE's shader implementation requires at least OpenGL 2.1 unfortunately.

Re: [HELP] Fix for Application error? Version 1.6
If the error occurs when you exit the game, it will be fixed for the next version. For shader support, either your video card or your drivers aren't good enough to support them, so you should try updating your graphics drivers and if that doesn't work get a new video card.
