I had something similar. I couldn't pass a level but I got the 1up mushroom every time so I had 3 lives every time. After lots of trying to beat the level I randomly got +1 when I died. I reached 5 lives then it stoped

I tried without using the portal gun and I had the same thing shown in the video.

It happens to me while playing. It stops working for a while then it works again.

Probably it will be fixed in the next update.

1.Go to stabyourself.net 2.Now take a look on the left at the background 4.You'll see that the that the background is a GIF of a jumping mario 5.You are probably like "I didn't noticed that" or "Meh I already saw it" 6.Now take a look at the right part of the background 7.There's no GIF's there xD 8...
